The numbers I listed previously were for Crown pro amp. I do not specifically see "FTC", but there is Crown's "minimum guaranteed" type of thing.

If it's FTC you want, then FTC you shall have, 2400W bridged @ 8 ohms, FTC 20Hz-20kHz; one of my QSC amps.

There is no need for the implication of bogus power ratings. Big, "real power" amps are easily available.
2400 Watts...Think you're in the lead. To you have your own Power Sub-Station :) ?

My favorite amps/receivers have been low/mid wattage Marantz.

Now I have 2 carver amps that I'm using in bridged mode for 1000wpc 8 ohm. But on some particularly boisterous evenings I seen to run out of current and trip a breaker.
I'm having an electrician add two 20amp circuits to the kitchen (to run a large separate frig and upright freezer) and two to my office just for the amps.

This should keep the beer cold and the music running long enough for the cops to show up before any breakers trip. :rockon:

Let's not take offense to anything listed. There is no winner. This is all personal preference. When I was young I need 3000 Watts, because I liked to crank things up to 120+db, now that I'm old 100db is loud enough for me :)

Yeah, I had reservations about posting in this thread because I've seen how it goes before. I should have trusted my experience, and not.

How many watts (RMS) per channel is your Amplifier into an 8 ohm load? I did not list my subwoofer amplifiers built into my 2x Sunfire True Subwoofer Signatures. These are 2700W ea.


No no..., you said at 8 ohms.

There is no specification that Sunfire's 2,700 watts is at 8 ohms, though it may be close. The woofer actually has a dc resistance of 5.0-5.1 ohms. And yes, I just measured mine at the speaker terminals less the electronics.

Meanwhile, my Crown PSA-2XH puts out 1,450 watts, bridged, at 8 ohms.

True, Did not know the Sunfire is 5.5ohms. In any case I've spoken with one of the original Sunfire Engineers who repaires the old Sunfire gear that the new Sunfire won't touch. He said the 2700 WATT claim is B.S. anyway, just marketing. In any case, we're also just trying to have some fun here, don't take this too seriously.....if it will make you happy, i'll update my statement with the information you've provided.

Atma-sphere M60 mono-block tube amps in the main system - 60 WPC @ 8 ohms

Kenwood Model 500 integrated in the vintage system - 100 WPC @ 8 ohms

Agreed that the 2,700 watts is optimistic, though theoretically possible. The downconverting power supply does not use a fixed transformer that would "govern" the power.

Assuming 120 vac from the house lines:

dc = a/c x sqrt 2 = 170 volts

170^2 = 28,900 volts

28,900 / 8 ohms = 3,612 watts theoretically possible @ 8 ohms

28,900 / 5 ohms = 5,780 watts thoretically possible

Like I said, the guy that helped develop the Sunfire True Subwoofer Signatures told me that the 2700W is pure B.S. and Marketing Scheme. In any case, I love my Sunfire True Subwoofer Signatures and would not trade them for anything else, especially due to the limited space they take up. The bottom line is the woofers huge magnet coupled with the giant voicecoil has a tremendous amount of BEMF, so most of the voltage generated by the amplifier is kicked right back to it. Reality sure is a real SOB.

In the left corner is my Sunfire and it's manual does say, "the power amplifier is capable of delivering 2700 watts into a 3.3 ohm resistor". But later in the same paragraph it states "the actual average input power is substantially less than 2700 watts and is approximately 380 watts for most musical material on the loudest passage". :dunno:

8 ohms is a nominal number, as the speakers impedance varies greatly with frequency.
