How old were you when you got your tenth McIntosh?

Geez, I think that I was around 60, when I came aboard, here. I'm nearly 68, and I have owned exactly 12 Mcintosh preamps/amps during that time. The last happy purchase, was my Mc500, from Audio Classics!

Since Feb 20 I traded my MVP 861 on a MCD 550, I added a MQ107, two MC 830's and 2 XRT 28's to complete my All Mcintosh Stereo system. I also added a MB 20 to interface my Apple Stuff in case the Airport Express dies as it is no longer supported by Apple. I added A Mark Levinson 515B TT to the HT system. Wouldn't mind updating the HT speakers but I'll need to win the lottery to do that. Trade one of my 207's in on three 1.2K amps. Maybe a pair of XRT 30's and XR-27. with 4 Mac surround speakers. It just depends on what is out there. But as the XRT speakers are all 4 ohms I guess I could get by on 3 more 830's as 100 to 200 watts is all I would ever need and the amps will put out 600 watts. Then I'd try my room perfect EQ's on the 151 and see if I like the results. Oh I could sell all my electronic crossovers, too and get another MP100 for the MX 151.

Then I would take my Grands back to original using a 104 crossover, with two MC 3500's two Urei 539 room Eq, a Frank Gow C-2200G, my TD 125 and a MCD 500. Then I guess I get one of the SME TT to replace the TD 125 for the Stereo system and move the TD 125 to the Vintage system. . You know what they say , its always good to have a dream. .

FWIW, I don`t know what was "broken" on/with the XRT 18s you were gifted, but I`ve owned my bought dealer used demo pair with the rare tweeter stands, now used in my bedroom system, pair since 1992, and love their SQ performance, and if you would have had the room/place for them, I would find it most unusual that you would not have enjoyed them as well.

They perform very well with the 5~6 genres of my HQ WAV. ripped music powered by Mc power amps & preamp.

Only the inexpensive re-foaming of the woofer & mid range speaker`s surrounds have been the only repairs required since my purchase for the past 28 yrs. use of those wonderful sounding speakers !

I run & enjoy them every single morning since I installed them, with the exception of the short time while the afore mentioned re-foam of their surrounds being replaced !
Oh well, you probably made somebody very happy when you sold them your pair.

Enjoy your JBLs 4434s, Sir.

BTW. Welcome to A/K, OHIGE Master.

In fact, I didn't want to sell XRT18. But my house had no space to set them.
I'm a audio beginner. I started to collect audio equipments from last year.
Speaker: Yamaha NS-10MT
CD Player: Yamaha CDX-1020
Premain amp:Yamaha CA-G1

Fortunatelly, I got McIntoshs this year, So I felt that I want to change Speakers to what is made in same age, same country, and same size.
I like to collect old American items. I have 50's wooden desk lamp, 80's zero halliburton model P, Dr Pepper's pub mirror, 90's eames shell chairs and softpad group chair...and so on.
So, JBLs 4401 is perfect for me!
Thank you for your wonderful reply, Sir !

I’m thinking lots of understanding spouses….or no spouses here!! Not at 10 yet, just 9 with 7 currently and all used…most needing/needed work, not counting SCR units or wooden cases, LOL.

I remember visiting a neighbor/friend with my parents in 1992. He had a McIntosh preamp and amp (probably a MC2105) but I can't remember. However, I do remember loving the big blue meters and have since been hooked on Mac. I must have been 8 or 9 at the time. My dad was an audiophile -- Linn LP12 and Hafler amp and preamp. I could not understand why he did not also have the cool McIntosh gear.

I received my first McIntosh equipment in 2013 at the age of 29. My dad gifted me an MC240 and MX110 that he got from a family friend. I subsequently had Audio Classics go through them and until 2021 -- used them exclusively. I recently parted with the tube gear and made the switch to a C41 and MC152 (a part of me wishes I could have afforded to keep the old tube gear around).

Are you happy with the new gear by comparison to the vintage system?

well since Feb of 2020 I have replaced and up graded quite a bit, so I as of now I have owned 44 pieces and currently have 21 pieces. 2 MC 830's, 2 XRT 28's, MQ 107, 2 MC 207's, a MR-80, MR-78, MR 7084.C-34, MP100, MCD 550, MVP 891, MX 151, MPI-4, MC 2505, Mcintosh Power strip, and 3 PC-4's. 11 pieces came from Audio Classics, 1 from Pearl Audio in Portland, the rest from when we were a McIntosh dealer.

Six owned, and five of those I still have. So if I ever get to ten Mc pieces it’ll be some years in the future. I don’t need more power, or systems in more rooms, or audio performance that exceeds what I have. I might, however, feel the need for blue meters at some point.

1- early 20's - found an MC2105w/case in the trash - worked after cleaning/broken glass only - recapped and glassed in the last 5 years
2- mid 40's - c26
3- late 40's - MR74w/case
4- late 40's - Case for C26
5- early 50's - ML1C
I had to count the case purchase to get halfway there! Next two items will be MQ101 and MQ3 - that will get me to 7. Then I hope to work backwards in time to a pair of MC30's and a 275. That makes ten! I am moving slowly in order to maintain the marriage. Need to have a second complete system by death so the kids both have a rig!
