How to Connect This Marantz Setup?

Came home from the tech on Friday afternoon and hooked everything up, tried it out and no problems at all. My tech even replaced the light that was out on the unit for free. Watched him do everything too which is great because he showed me on all his gear that everything was looking perfect.

Before I took it in on Friday to the tech, the 3300 was working except for the light. I could see the meters on my 250 moving as I was adjusting the volume though. I had no sound but that was because I had the speakers hooked up to the 3300 instead of the 250, like a dum dum I know. But after I tested everything out once I got home from the tech on Friday, nothing has changed. I turned the power strip off and off it stayed until I came home from the firehouse this morning.

No moving meters on the 250 as my tt is playing either or when I adjust the volume. checked the fuse and it didn't look blown. plugged the 3300 into a different power strip and directly into an outlet but nothing still.

any thoughts guys before I end up taking it back to my tech on Friday? Really was a bummer tonight, I had Aerosmiths live Bootleg record from 77' 78' tour ready to be blasted. I do have 2 new sets of rca cables coming from amazon today so I can connect the 120 tuner to the 3300 and see if that works on the tuner setting. im not thinking it will but I guess there's a chance the light could be out again and the 2 phono stages are blown?

That's no bueno.

Are the speakers connected to the 250? Your connections looked a little dicey. Sure hope you didn't short them.

Any chance you have the tape monitor switched on?

BTW, there is only one phono stage.

lol, I was thinking its no bueno myself. I hope it's nothing I did. the speakers are connected to the 250. I tried the 2 tape monitor buttons as well. would my dicey speaker wire affected the 3300 even though its connected the amp? the amp comes on and I hear the relay switch a few seconds after. so what would having two phono connections on the back of the 3300 be referenced as? 1 phono stage but 2 inputs?

here is a picture of the power cord for the 3300, looks like somebody changed it out at some point. it doesn't look original. not sure if that could be a culprit of the unit not turning on?

Yes, two phono inputs.

No, speaker connections will not affect the 3300. I did not realize you had already identified the 3300 as the failure point.

So its power indicator isn’t coming on?

yes, was working but with no light on Friday before I took it to the tech. he replaced the light for me and tested the 250 also. sent me on my way and it all played when I brought it home. I only tested it out for a couple minutes though and then shut it off until just a bit ago when my wife and I sat down to listen. been wracking my brain since.
 
Use it to see if 3300 is getting power. You can just probe one of its unswitched outlets.

And use it to confirm fuse is good.

I will try both of these things first thing in the morning. Would having the 3300 on and then turning the power strip off do damage? I’m pretty sure I turned the unit off and then the power strip though
 
Good morning, quick update. None of my lamps work on the 3300 outlets as they all have the larger neutral prong that won't fit into the 3300. And I went to use my Klein multimeter and it's not working lol. replaced the batteries and still no good. it was just working a couple months back when I did a lil project. im gonna either go buy one today or just order one from amazon.

my tech only has drop offs on Fridays and Saturdays so at least I have some time to try and troubleshoot with you guys until then. any recommendations on multimeters? I had a Klein mm500 but I don't think I want that style anymore. it only had 3 buttons, automatically detected ac or dc without having to switch.

anyways, I will keep you guys posted once I get the new multimeter.
 
Good morning everyone, so I just tested, with my brand new multimeter, the unswitched outlet on the back of the 3300 with the unit on and off, as well as having the power strip on and off and I was getting a reading of 124v every time. I hope thats good news for me lol.

It eliminates the aftermarket plug as a problem.

It also shows that the on/off switch of your power strip is not working, if indeed you are getting voltage from the 3300 when the power strip is turned off.

Time to get the unit back to your tech.

Thank you, I will send him an email today and let him know I will be there Friday. He’s probably gonna be super annoyed since he just looked at it lol.

I just don’t know what could have happened. Could it have been the fact that once I hooked everything up and had it running for a short time that it blew something from running properly for the first time in many years?

The tech had tested it but I’m sure until it’s under normal working conditions you never know how it’s gonna react. It’s all original in the 3300
