How to store woofers

I'm wondering what's the proper way to store woofers. Face up, face down?

I have two 15" tad woofer that are waiting for their cabinets and I would like to make sure nothing bad happen.

This will depend on surrounds, but here is what I do.

If laying them face down the surround just make contact with the surface they are placed on, this is IDEAL. This prevents ANY sag from occurring with surround OR spider.

Woofers face to face. Again the surrounds can NOT protrude past the frame or gasket (if one is installed). Stored this way you can flip them from time to time to, again, fend off sagging.

Storing face forward will introduce sag AND wear the spider in time, due to abnormal stretching. The only way to keep things "even" is face up or face down. Then controlling movement, where the cone makes little to no movement.

You can use shims, cautiously, to help take up play. Where possible, my speakers are always stored face down.

Agree.

Storing them face up or face down influences the voice coil out of home position. The suspension is far more likely to sag and develop improper memory in these positions. Ask a manufacturer, if there are any English speaking ones left.

Store them someplace that is cool, dry and away from ozone producing machinery like electric motors and transformers, ozone will deteriorate foam surrounds.

Too confusing for me.... don't store them, instead play them and you won't have to worry about confounding storage issues.

Yes, but when you have spares for older/rare vintage models, they need to be stored properly.

I assume you are talking about waiting days or weeks for cabinets, not years or decades. In that case, I would not worry about it. They probably sat on the vendor's shelf longer than you will store them.

I'll try to fit something to keep the cone in neutral position. And I'll make sure they are in the "bassment"... :nutz:

I hope I won't store them too long, but I'm thinking about finding spares.
