I think the mc will hold its value better than the Porsche, at least from what Ive seen from the used Porsche prices in this part of the world... but damn that turbo looks nice... secondly, I know that Porsche will cost me ALOT of money in the first 6 months...

Dennis you need to do more Porsche homework. 1997 turbo S's are extremely rare --- ones with under 7,500 miles routinely trade for $150,000 - $190,000 WW there are only 200-1997-993 turbo S --- That is the one with 425+horsepower and the tasteful scoop only on the right side behind the door for additional engine cooling.

Well I just found 2 in less than 5 mins., one $119K and the other $125K. Both with more miles than 7.5k but still low at 62K and 28K.

I have a feeling the 997 GT3 RS will be even more desirable and collectible than the 993 Turbo S. Some dealers have been getting $180k for them, or $50k over the sticker. The '73 RS has been fetching over $250k recently on the used market.

For those that voted for the mac combo, if the 911T came with McIntosh amps and speakers, would that change your mind? :D

I voted for the Mac gear, but what I'd really do is take the cash, call Ivan and have him invest it for me. Well, it's actually probably way below Ivan's threshold to manage, but maybe he'd give me some good investment ideas!

I allready have more Mac gear then i'll ever use,i used to rotate amp's & pre's quite often but after getting the Mc1201's the system stays the same so the rest of the gear stays in storage.

I'd have to go with the Porsche, then sell it & buy a classic GTO with the proceeds of the sale:yes:

I like where your head is at!

I'll take the Porschey, sell it, buy the MC 275, MX 110, and Jubilees... then pay off the house, and take early retirement.

Thank you very much.

Yes especially the cheap plastic and suede... This is why the resale value is so poor and the 993 are holding so incredibly strong. Even the gauges are cheaper in the new cars...

For example a clean 1997 993 turbo is more expensive than a 2001-2005 turbo the 2008 turbo will suffer the same fate...I'm sure...

Attached is the photo of a proper Porsche interior. This is a 1997 Turbo S today's price $180,000US...apparently quality has a price...(I don't need an S since I'm not a good driver --- only average)

You really have no idea what you are talking about.

As with what was stated here earlier, the reason the 993 Turbo values are strong is because there are so few of them that were built. The market is saturated with 996s and that has driven their values down. The 993 is also the last of the air cooled Porsches which gives it even further collectable value. The 996 is vastly superior to the 993 and the 997 goes one step further.

As far as the interior of 993 and older Porsches.. What interior? The interior in my 1980 911 SC race car is no better in quality and design than what could be found in a Honda Accord of the same vintage. Porsche interiors were embarassing up until the 996, and the 997 is exceptional.

Get the Porsche. Audio is fun, but if you have balls between your legs, this shouldn't even be a debate.

I cant vouch for Ivan but because of this kind of thinking I always say I pay more than a handful of people in the US for audio equipment--- my "opportunity cost" for the last 25 years has been off the charts.

Thank God for people like IVAN who don't think this way --- free spending is the engine of growth in this country ...

Yes, I do.
Imagine what the GT will bring at auctions in another 20 years when we are all driving either bio-diesel or electric cars. :thmbsp: Think it will be as hot as the 959 was?

It will certainly be interesting to see. The Carrera GT took a bit of a dip in value and there were examples that started to creep down into the low $300k range earlier this year. Since that point, and now that all of the cars have finally been sold from the dealers, the values have been increasing again. I would guess that the cars will begin to stabilize at around their original MSRP within a year at 440-450k. I suspect that this will increase very slowly and eventually I think the car will start to see collectable car status.
Porsche is a hot item these days. For the first time ever, they are seeing Ferrari like markups on some of their cars like the GT3RS. This has trickled down into everything. My 996 GT2 was also depreciating quite a bit and it has now recently began to accend in value.

The 959 was the test bed for many of the technologies used both in today's Porsches and cars from other manufacturers. There is still technology used in that car that has yet to filter down into the cars of today. It was built in extremely limited quantities and if it was not for Bill Gates's efforts in getting it federalized, they would never been road legal in the US. Saying this car is unique would be a gross understatement.

I believe the CGT will eventually see 959 values, but I believe the 959 will appreciate significantly more in the years to come.
