P.S. I just got my Porsche earnings statement and there is a message to McIntosh buried in there --- In the early 1990's Porsche was losing money. As I recall 964's were essentially sold at a loss due to manufacturing cost gone wild. Today in the last six months they have made 1.05 billion euros. So by reducing the labor content, buying much more of the car from suppliers and building SUV's they now have enough money to buy Volkwagen.

P.S. within the year sales to China will beat those in the home market. Apparently they are opening roughly 2 dealerships per month in China --- the Porsche of choice in China is the SUV which represents 70% of the mix.

The message is if Porsche followed the whims of their most loyal conservative customers they would now be a division of a Korean company or owned by a vulture capital outfit...

How do you like your LR3? I am looking to buy an 08'. I already have a Sport HSE.

Ivan,

The LR3 is my favourite car of all time. Brutish styling, 7 full adult seats, land rover name and a lovely ride. The only bad thing is the economy but then your Sport HSE (turbocharged) is just as bad! The engineering is beyond comparison. I found the Sport too small inside, not to mention it is actually a LR3 underneath but it does look very nice!

I really can't find anything on the market that can compete. The Audi and Volvo SUVs have hamster seats in the third row, the Merc is poorly made and only has five seats as does the Beemer and Porshe; the lexus is ugly and the US SUVs and well, no comment (not that they are available here anyway). Let's just say they have the handling of a one legged duck on drugs (believe me I have seen it!).:D

The only other one I would consider is the old G-wagon (not that ugly new one) or a Range Rover with 7 seats which sadly is not a production model. In fact people have questioned the need for a RR at all (apart from the Cache).

Now if only they would stuff the V8 Diesel from the RR into the LR3!:thmbsp:

howie

Oddly enough I have the LR3 also --- I've been hoping for the TDV8 LR3--- but since Rover is for sale I'm not exactly holding my breadth. Honestly, I cant see how Ford makes much money on a vehicle as overbuilt and fairly priced as an LR3. 2 years 10K miles --- no repairs, no rattles, no squeaks been off road many times...

I know why they won't do the TDV8 LR3. Competition with RR:yes:

2 1/2 years 20k+ and going strong!:D

This is surprising to me. Everything I've heard from owners of LR and RR lead me to believe otherwise in the past. :scratch2:

You're right there Serge. JD Power always has LR near the bottom. Don't ask me why May be Lionking and I used up our lucky Karma with the LR3. That's why I got a dodgy MCD201:D

Id go with the 911 Turbo.Heres why.My wife is gonna be driving it,and she could care less about what makes it such a great car.She just wants fast and looks great. So Ill let her drive it to work for a few days to let her make the girls in the office jealous, then Id sell it at a loss.I should still be able to get over 100 grand for it.Then Id buy her a Nissan Z,which she likes even better. That leaves me with 60 grand for one HELL of a nice Mac system.

I don't care too much about JD Power surveys but I do know at least 6 people who own them and not one has said it has been trouble free. Then again, many said their X5's had "some" problems and we had 3 in the immediate family and none had any problems. I guess "Karma" does have something to do with each owner and vehicle. :dunno:

My Land Rover experiences cannot be discussed here since this is a family website.

Sticking with this thread, I would take a Bose Waveradio over a Land Rover!

jrsystems, if you found the C2 to be less refined and comfortable than the M5, the GT3 will appeal even less as it is more of a "focused" track car than it is about comfort. I drive the 550i as a daily driver, great car, but I miss the "feeling" of a car that carries almost a 1000 less pounds like the C2S or the GT3.

The C2 versus the M5 as a daily driver is a no contest. The GT3 is special. I would never drive it daily and because of that, I would still prefer the daily use of my system for a similar investment. The M5 as a daily driver however is another story. I "need" my everyday car and that car needs to be special.

Prestige. Greenwich is reflective of the demographic they are located in, and they know it.

Prestige is a good store. The owners are hard core Porsche freaks. Greenwich Porsche is more a function of New Country not being a good company than the town it's in. When it was Pray Porsche, they were terrific.

I bought my B&W's at Audiocom on Greenwich Avenue and got great service, a fair price, and no "high-end" attitude, let alone a Greenwich attitude. Unfortunately they dropped Mac. Great guys there though.

After getting to drive a brand new 993 at the dealer, it was a Porsche club sponsored event, every one who was there got to drive it. It was like the line at Disneyworld.

I did the same shift points that I had in my old 924 and in my car that would put me maybe at 30 mph. In the 993 I was way over 80 mph. I apologized to the dealer only to find out the last guy had it over 120 mph. Driving that car gave me a glimpse into what Superman must feel like. Well if he were real :D

The great thing about forums is heat seeking folks --- after I said that the new car is better in every way than the old car a guy flames me because he thinks the new car is better than the old... hilarious

Give me a break. You cannot even remember what you posted yesterday about the interiors.

Another point though --- Ferrari folks are always friendlier --- nothing to prove I guess.

Laughable, tough guy. Do you own one?

A Cayenne Turbo is a little car? Admittedly the Cayenne is a tight fit.
Howie, that's an obvious point, and more so when you factor in that I'm 5'6" tall. Despite all that, I have to duck my head to avoid the curvature of the windshield to get in and out. Taller folk have it worse, and it's not a particularly small vehicle, just a peculiar design. In addition, the electronics are a mess, and two different dealers cannot fix them, after almost four years of trying. It's fast and drives very well, but I'll be glad to see it go.

Let's keep this civil so I do not have to remove every off topic post in this thread, OK? :)

I think we did business at Pray Porsche at the same time --- that was when Horst B was the service director and he all but insured good service.

... the Merc is poorly made and only has five seats ...
I'll have to disagree on both points, but as to different models. We just bought a GL-550 for my wife (and the kids), and it's every bit as well screwed together as the SL-550 we bought earlier in the year, and frankly, MUCH better than the Cayenne. The SL and GL have no rattles at all, while the Cayenne has always had several, all annoying. The GL has seven seats, and the back row folds flat. Same terrific 382 hp engine and 7-sp transmission as the SL, huge tires and plenty of gizmos that all actually work correctly. It's rapidly become our favorite kid-hauler ever.

Not to discount your experience as you owned one, but I am 6'1+ and I never had an issue getting in and out of the Cayennes. However, nearly everyone I know that has had one has dealt with the electrical issues that your are speaking of. It is a shame, as any Porsche tech will tell you that the Cayennes are poorly built in comparison to the 911, but if it were not for the Cayennes, Porsche would have gone out of business.
