"I asked AI" - are we really getting that lazy?

I asked google's AI if there are extensive scientific testing of the effectiveness of Paw Paw ointment.

I proclaimed YES!

Looked at sources and there were two, one a wellness site and the other the maker if the Ointment.
Shite!

Funny how I could get that same exact information from just going to the Mayo Clinic website. You do realize that is all AI is doing is regurgitating the exact same information as you would get if you would simply scroll down... AI is providing us wtih zero new information. It can't.

Wikipedia actually has people who monitor what is posted. Beliefs are not enough to get in.
Been to a Walmart lately? Look around. How many people do you think are going to do any monitoring or research to see if AI is fact or fiction. Years from now anything it says will be gospel.

Yes, they are pretty careful about who can write for them. But that doesn't change anything at all about beliefs vs. facts.

Consider, the first Moon Landing. It was written/edited for Wiki by this guy:

He was not an Apollo Astronaut, and was not on the moon when the astronauts landed. He is a guy with beliefs. He no doubt gathered lots of information from many people at NASA and perhaps other sources, and he accepted their claims because they would have a lot of credibility. But the only people who can claim the landing as a FACT, are those who went to the moon- Neil, Michael, and Buzz. Their claim would be FACTUAL for them. But anyone listening to them can't make the factual claim, they can only choose to BELIEVE those guys.

I'm sure that seems like an extreme view, but it is important because the world turns on trillions and trillions of beliefs trying to act as FACTS. For example, the bulk of what has ever been written about WARS, was written by people who didn't fight in them, didn't plan them, and often weren't even alive when it happened. History is a set of beliefs.

People will believe whatever fits their narrative. I have a feeling AI will be able to someday corral us all to its narrative overtime. CNN and FOX have a way of dividing us and that’s not working out to well. Maybe one day we will all be united. Us against the machine. lol.

He reminds me of our Hungarian piano tuner.

Is dealing with information from AI any different from anybody? In one long meeting to go over "stuff" drilling down level of effort, detail/results, the other side said we can keep going, but you have to trust them somewhere/time. Then the shoe was on the other foot on another occasion, a manager wants to understand and make sure our decision is sound. Started asking what process we took? Then have we verified the material cert? then went on to what companies supplied the material? We were afraid he would go on to ask for the atomic/molecular structure. He was "famous" even outside the company for asking questions. Years after he moved on, someone in meetings would say " I am "xxx" and have a question. At the mention of his name, everyone quacked up.

I’m sorry. Could you explain how to do that to a computer illiterate like me? Does it require an app. or something? Thanks.
Sure, if mrswakka and me can do it!
We use facebook messenger. The stand alone app. The one in facebook doesn’t seem to work there same.
Click on the ai, then click on the photo icon. It looks just like a normal chat box. Click the paper clip icon, it should ask for permission to access your photos. Click ok, pick a picture to upload, under the picture types Rembrandt, Matisse, etc. Hit enter and you have a picture of our triple 2 painted by Rembrandt. Silly, I know, but mrswakka loves pictures of our grandkids and our dogs. And that’s all that matters.

Don't Worry, Be Happy... the song. Wondering if A. I. figures into this. Death of Europe as we've known it presented as business. I wonder what will happen to the facilities, dismantle and move to China, on site retool for munitions. Either way Germans are put on the streets. Jobs to migrants. Market value might increase. 50,000 cuts is a lot, I hear conscription is being considered, moving forward. The conflict. I'm reading foreign sources as well as domestic. Just wondering.

I wonder what will happen to the facilities,
Look at the US Rust Belt for clues. Once the money is lost, no one cares about the assets.

Back when Globalism was being loosed on the world, leaders just assumed it was "growing markets for all!" They didn't see that they were entering a competition that would bury all losers.

i asked ai about a remote control component for a certain 1980s jvc amp, first it says that it is not a remote capable unit so i had to explain that it had remote in/out rcas on the rear for a remote control unit that connected to it.

now it agrees with me and starts showing me links to a sony remote control. so i call it an idiot and it apologizes and shows me a jvc remote control.

so i go do the research myself and i finally find the unit that i am looking for and i read about it. do some ebay searches and google searches by name, etc.

i decided to ask ai again and it gave me the exact model number of the unit i was just looking at.

Did you use Google Lens? That AI app has helped me ID many different things.
