I am absolutely livid right now. The second time I drive my truck after I get it running right, I hit a ****ing deer.:mad:

It wasn't even on a back road. It was on a main highway right outside of town. When I saw it, I got on the brakes. It was running away from me, so I let off the brakes. Then the brainless thing did a 180 and ran straight at the truck.:wtf:

The front end is all smashed up now. It even managed to crunch in one of the old Mopar muscle car dog dish hubcaps I bought off Ebay.

I swear this truck is cursed. All of the odd problems, and last year some old geezer changed lanes too soon and hit the same fender. It wasn't bad, but I never even had a chance to fix that!

It's a damn good thing I put comprehensive insurance on it. What really sucks is that some of those front end parts are unobtanium unless I get used parts.

I would rather have been in mom's '15 Hyundai. It has full coverage, and plus extra coverage through Hyundai for anything that isn't covered through insurance. Or the rust bucket Ford Escape I've been driving. They would have just written it off and I would got a nice insurance check out of it. But NO, it had to be a vehicle I really like.

Ugh.

I love them for their innocence and Beauty ..
But Hate them for how absolutely Stupid and prolific they are!
Dangerous Hazard and potentially deadly on our Roads!

It's dark, but I looked at it again. It even dented and pushed the bedside in around the gas door. Unbelievable.

The truck was nowhere near perfect before. It wasn't a rust bucket but it had small dents on most of the panels and the previous owner just had it rattle canned flat black. It looks absolutely trashed now. Part of me hopes they total it just so I don't have to deal with trying to find parts and fix it without a place to work.:(
 
That sucks.

You may get your wish on the total, but it probably won't get you much in the way of $$.
 
My hubby and I gave hit a yot as l of 11 deer between us. Fact of life in wiscondin. It's called insurance.
 
I feel your pain. I drive through what has to be the most deer infested area every day going to work. Mostly I can avoid them, but a couple years ago I messed up the front of my Mazda3 when I hit one. It was an entire heard of the damn things that crossed the road at dusk. That car was near end of life, so I just did what I could and kept driving it. At the end of last year a couple crossed the road in front of me. I stopped, with plenty of time and nobody close behind me. Before I could get going again, a car came up from behind and rear ended me. Didn't see the deer and didn't realize I hadn't got moving again. It didn't look bad, just the rear bumper cover, but when all was said and done, it was $3500 to fix. Covered of course, but what a pain. I hate deer with a passion, but don't have any real interest in hunting them. I used to autocross and can make evasive maneuvers that would lose your lunch, but you generally can't do that because everybody tailgates and/or is on the phone. Better to bend the metal and hope it's covered.
 
Today is almost a lucky day for you. Park the truck and hang out. Come the first weekend in august, goto the carlisle pa truck show (all Truck nats). I am a vendor there and have limited free passes, you can have one.

My good friend across the street at the show is a mopar nut (he is at mopar nats now as we speak) and will be there with 2-3 trucks AND a van full of body parts. he owns a recovery yard in gaithersburg MD so all his stuff is primo factory stuff, get you a good price. can you get me a list of the damaged metal needed?
 
PS: deer are rodents in PA. we kill more on the roads than most states kill during hunting season.

My kid capped off 4 2 years ago with all his tags. but now he is in college and only had time to get 1 last year. we need more people to dust off the rifles.
 
One jumped in front of me a couple years ago. New front bumper and valence from Rock Auto and I'm back in business.
 
I live in western PA, so I feel for you (primary residence just south of Erie, second residence just SW of Pittsburgh)--the roads are littered with deer--so is my back yard up north. Back in the day, one of my classmates got hit by a deer coming home from BB practice--it literally jumped off a hillside and landed on the hood and windshield of the car--not a scratch on the front clip, but holes in the hood (from hooves) and a smashed out windshield. I know the drill well--look for those beady glowing eyes after dark.
 
I had a buddy with a totally restored ‘64 Impala hit a deer that was running down a road in the wrong direction...figure that one. He cut its throat and used 100 mile an hour tape to secure it to the hood. He never used that backroad shortcut ever again.

You know if you have a favorite truck, I’m sure someone in a rust free area can find what you want and probably cheaper than you can find. The truck can probably be member relayed from member to member across the country to you easily enough. The Albuquerque New Mexico-El Paso Texas area would have the cheapest rust free trucks in good road worthy running condition. I was stationed there for five years and saw so many great cars and trucks from the fifties through the seventies being driven around. One of my soldiers bought a ‘67 GTO for $5,000 back in 2000.

Here's the deal with deer at night as I have experienced it.
They stop at the edge of the road and wait until your headlights are no longer shining on them, then they run right in front of you.
Next time, slow way down, watch until your headlights are no longer shining on the deer, stop, they bolt every time right after that.
I've never hit one doing that and I've watched many deer run right in front of me after stopping.
Never assume that because they have stopped, they won't make some stupid leap of faith.
They sure don't act that way when I'm out hunting them, of course I can't use a vehicle to hunt from, not hunt at night.
 
I've hit many deer over the years, but most of those times were in total junk that I didn't give a rat's ass about. I've even had them run into vehicles while I was nearly stopped.:rolleyes: That's why we started putting comp insurance on our vehicles.

It's not as bad now, but they used to be super over populated on this mountain. It was common to see herds of 10-30 grazing along the roads.

Back when my dad was still alive, I brought some of the ones I hit home and we ate them. My dad grew up poor in the hills of WV, so yes we knew to throw away the bruised parts. I actually ate lots of roadkill in my childhood.

Funny story:
A construction truck hit a deer, and the guys were standing around it while it was still kicking. My dad stopped. They asked if he had a gun to put it down. He said no because he worked at WVU. He clubbed it with a pry bar and threw it in the trunk of his POS Buick Skyhawk work beater. The deer briefly came to in the trunk and started kicking the **** out of it.o_O Dad said he could barely keep the car on the road until it finally died.:rflmao:

As I said, I know the truck isn't a gem, but I've gotten more comments from people liking it than all the other vehicles I've owned put together. I guess people like anything that's old.:dunno: It is lowered ~2" and hot rod ish looking. A hot rod it ain't, though.;)
