I had the face glass broken when I shipped mine and while the glass is not that big of a deal, the face behind it is usually damaged as well. Replacing that is a much bigger deal. Can't tell if this one is messed up or not.

Knobs are easy and can be found all over the Internet.

$400 is probably a more reasonable price for this one.

Yea the 1250's and 1280's have been all over the map recently. I mean way more than usual. Last week I saw someone posting (not a audio company either who normally take a picture of a 1250 on a nice shiny rack and sell them for $1500) but some random person with a medium condition AS IS 1250 asking $1700 BIN. There has been half a dozen lately over $1200 in non restored condition.

Theres a guy local selling a restored 1250 for $600 but he said he got struct by lightning and he sounded very sketchy...

Even the 950's and 1050s have been going for bank. Saw a $700 1050 recently and a $999 1080... I mean come on. These pioneers people are asking (and even getting) retarded prices...

Ive been trying to build my retro pioneer setup (for looks mostly) which involved a sx receiver over 1250, a PL 570 turntable and I picked up some cheap good shape HPM 100's. On my third pl 570 from ebay (none have made the trip) and the 1250 I paid $700 for in GOOD WORKING CONDITION turns off after about 5 minutes of play. Ebay has been so bad for me lately...losing my butt... Next 1250 and above I buy is going to be local...

Back to the point though. I have been checking out 1250's on ebay for the past year and I have seen good condition working ones with only minor cosmetic flaws go in the $600-$700 range many times. It seems the prices go up and up and up until people give up then a cheap one slips by unnoticed because people gave up then the cycle repeats. Keep an eye out and adjust your ebay front page settings to display recently posted pioneer sx1250 and set your home page to ebay. This way every time you open internet explorer without trying you will see those 1250's right in front of you and you might just get a good deal. I saw one a while back (couple months) have a buy it now in perfect condition at $550 and it sold while I was clicking the button. Think it lasted an hour before selling.

I'm seeing prices going up on the vogue equipment from the 1970s such as the Pioneer SX line, but there's some great values to be had today from other manufactures that also put out excellent products. Realistic, MCS, and Toshiba, to name a few.

The herd will go after the Latest Big Thing, but we audio geeks know when to hold back and not follow them over that trendy cliff.
