WTF did they do.

Everybody knows that painting a piece of audio gear closes up the highs and muddies up the bass.

A guy I knew in high school got a great deal on a 79 thunderbird. It only had like 29k miles on it and was showroom fresh with bright white interior. He was an idiot... He wanted tinted windows, so he spray painted the inside of the windows black! No masking! Overspray and runs all over that white interior. Then bumper stickers all over the perfect paint. Made me sick...

i know many vintage hifi heads (myself included) like the look of vintage gear as well as the sound, but this might be a good way to get an sx-1980 into your rotation for CHEAP.

then wait for a face/knobs to appear on fleabay from a boat anchor...

might have to follow this auction.

Think felt ...

I had an old Riviera back in the day that was beat to crap. Friend of mine worked in a local shop that made pool tables and he brought over a bunch of scrap felt. Sprayed the whole thing down with contact cement and covered it top to bottom. In our own defence, we were pretty wasted at the time.

You'd be amazed how much water that stuff soaked up in the rain. You could watch the suspension start to settle over time from the additional weight ...

I'd like to say I had a pic, but frankly, I'm glad I don't ... <G>

Seeing there's such a demand, I'm ready to ramp up on production. What color can I put yall down for?

So, everybody head on down to the hardware store, scroe some bug bombs, and post back when you've created your own personal masterpiece!

did hello kitteh piss on that 1?:nono:

Oh man! The Prototype black-faced 1980 finally makes it's appearance, after being lost for many, many, many years.

Those that commented about the lettering being ruined, yes, it may get ruined upon removal of that black gunk, however, the lettering that is on the upper part of face, where the pushbuttons are, is silkscreened and that is what may get ruined, finally, the lettering that is around volume knob, and function toggles and tone knobs is indented/engraved into the aluminum, so that will not get ruined.

Holy cowlick, Batman! Almost a thousand clams for the thing! Perhaps some bidders actually thought it was a genuine Euro black faced 1980? lol! :yikes:
