I must confess... I now own two pair of Pioneer speakers that I might keep.

I have had many Pioneer speakers over the years, from the kabuki to the HPM series... and the two that have most impress me thus far are:

The CS-R700:

A vintage Pioneer speaker fan and owner here myself. I'm very impressed with my CS-DX's and CS-99's and I'm hunting for 99a's and 901's as we speak. I hear a few people say they don't like the 99A's because they think the steel horn is to bright or harsh but your post favoring the horns reassures me to go ahead and get 'em.

You are right on the money with the CS-R700! I've owned a set for about six years and like them a lot. I here the CS-R500 are the most balanced set in the CS-R 700/500/300 lineup.
With the rare CS-R900 being at the top of the lineup. Here's my set

So what's the difference between the 700 and 900.
Very little info about the 900's online,and no pics that i could find,do you have any of the drivers?

I only have the CS-R700 like you. I heard about the CS-R900 in the Pioneer forum. Pretty rare speaker

Well... things have changed a bit. I no longer own any Pioneer speakers...
I had a chance to sell the R700s for an amount that I then bought some Klipsch Forte 1s.... Sorry, but the R700s can't come close on any level.
I sold my CS-901s for the same amount I was then able to buy a Dynaco st70 for... $50 more in caps and I have another magnificent system.
I would trade Pio speakers for a St-70 and Fortes again, and again.
I love this hobby!

Just picked up my first pioneer speakers, CS-A700's. Price was great, they look awesome, but didn't think I'd like them as much as I do. Not going anywhere for a while. Was surprised by the crossovers and quality of what are actually very nice attenuators, not pots.

I've had four sets come through here including three sets of Hpm 100 and a set of cs77.All long gone.

Hey, folks! I have 4 pair of vintage Pioneer speakers. All have been recapped. >>Pioneer CS A500. recapped with Jantzen Superior caps for mid and tweeter line. Sound is detailed open and clean. Pioneer CS 63, recapped all caps with Mundorf EVO Aluminum in Oil. Big sound Extremely open sounding and smooth, too and loud. Pioneer CS 700g recapped with Dayton precision caps except the 47uf is Audyn Q4. The same for the Pioneer CS 77a. I enjoy them all. My favorite is the CS A500. Haven't heard or seen the "R" series though.
