HELP Identify These Advents

Please see if you can help identify these advents I picked up at GW for $29.95. I know they need surrounds but I think they were worth it.:scratch2:

If you are into vintage speakers at all you should order foams individually and buy a big bottle of Aleene's original tacky glue. It will save you a ton of money, also, shimming is not necessary if you are willing to wait a couple more hours.

Well, I never shim, but I don't go at it all at once. I do the outer circumference of the cone and then wait for it to dry and go back and do the outer rim... it centers itself that way just due to the foam being a circle and what you are glueing being a circle. Also, because you already glued the inner ring, you can't accidentally misalign it unless you really try.
I've refoamed 8+ sets of speakers with no trouble this way.
It takes more time because you have to wait a little less than twice of how long it takes your glue to dry.

I'm listening to a pair right now. Before you put any work into the woofers, make sure the tweets are good. Many of those tweets are found burned out. If it's 'open', don't toss the tweeter yet. Often it's only the lead, and that's 'repairable'.

I re-foamed 2 pairs of those this week. I have never shimmed an Advent woofer. The VC gap is huge compared to others.

If you don't shim you can move the cone in and out, testing for friction as you work.
If you shim there's the possibility of gluing on the surround with asymmetrical tension that will pull the cone off center when the shims are removed. I've re-foamed over 120 drivers and shimmed fewer than a dozen of them.

I've done a few dozen drivers, and only had to shim one set. It didn't take me any longer than if I didn't shim, other than removing and reinstalling dust caps.

Good info on checking the drivers. I've seen, on occasion, folks order crossover and foam kits, only to have open coils.

Wow....I'd like to come across another pair of NLA's so I could stack them for poops and grins. I've got 2 pairs of Dynaco A-25's and stacked, well, I like it.

Nice find! Refoam, (maybe) recap, put new terminals on them (versus those shitty stock ones), oil the cabinets, and enjoy! (ok, you don't have to go quite that far but...you know)
