Seems to me the linked article is quoting a bunch of people complaining that they did not benefit from the recent algorithm changes made by Google.

I don't see anything inherently evil in those changes. Do you?

One person in the article mentions canyons and how AI has replaced his article with one that isn't even accurate.
This:

"Google has replaced my article with the giant AI Overview box, and it spits out an answer that is mostly wrong," Leiter says. "The first four places it lists are not even slot canyons. A slot canyon is a specific type of canyon with a narrow passageway, but the AI doesn't understand that. It's just listing random canyons and even a walking trail instead." The AI Overview did include a link to Leiter's article, but only if you took the time to click a tiny arrow at the bottom of the result. Leiter says he doesn't believe he'll get more traffic than he used to as the top search result. In either case, it's a small consolation. Leiter says Google's recent algorithm updates erased 95% of his traffic.

Definitely vertical integration of all things. Look who owns them. Google, stands for Global Organisation of Oriented Language of Earth from which emerges google, 10 the 100th power, unimaginable number, it knows all. What's in a name. I see them as alternative.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. You can search from the box at the top of the page. Or if you want to make it your default search engine, you can click that button and follow the directions.

On my android. If I'm reading AK and want to look up a model number, it will close the AK page when I open the other. I can do that with Google. In fact I'm doing it now. Have 2 pages open
 
I started using DDG about 15 years ago and have tried to avoid anything Google ever since. The hardest thing to do without is YouTube. And Mapquest sucks.
 
I've been watching this Google AI thing unfold for a bit and my concern/fear is that a query returns a curated response as the primary product which most will simple accept/trust as correct. We've seen results so far that are biased, incorrect, or fabricated which seemingly are intentional and some due to AI "hallucination".

It's about trusting results are factual and unbiased. I don't see either, yet.

Still not sure exactly what you mean. It won't let you open another tab? I can do that with no problems.
 
Ya know what's funny...Google totally sucks at wheel of fortune. You can be typing the most obvious thing in the world and they can't guess the end of it right
 
Thanks to the OP for the interesting info about Google. Things change quick. Google searches often do end up at Amazon. I recently noted Amazon's "overview" of product reviews has changed. It is now based on AI. However, the individual reviews remain.
