imral3's system progression - aka - new house, new listening room

Enjoy the musics!!
Still moving in, unpacking, repairing/upgrading things in the house. But, I now have a decent size room: 17.5' L x 11.5' W x 7.5' H. Unfortunately it has to serve dual purpose with the TV in it.

For now things are temporarily setup while waiting/searching for an audio rack. Much more to do with the room... treatments, REW, DSP, etc. Wish me luck!!!

Treatments treatments treatments, I still get relatives asking me if they are some type of speaker.
I just shrug my head and leave the room.

Good luck with your new space, I see carpet or rugs in your future.
 
Those dimensions should be conducive to a nice-sounding room. Looking forward to the final result!

Thanks! Yes, maybe an area rug for sure. Those curtains are also on the back wall. Have a 3rd sub waiting in the wings, if needed. ;)

Thanks! Starting off with speakers a 3rd into the room, as well as my seating position. Quite a change from my previous near-field setup.
 
I has stereo & TV in 11.5 X 16' and it sounded great. Plenty of space in yr room for both.
Good luck with it. Fun stuff.

Congrats on new place.
You mention your looking for a rack.
I have a thread in this forum on display racks, rolling that Pier One Stores are closing out. Heavy duty steel and bamboo shelves. Did I say low cost. They are going out of business and closing out everything. If industrial look passes decision makers. Just an idea. I got 3.

Thanks for the tip but, I've already got one of those wire shelving units in place. Only a few small boxes and the crown amp to hold of the floor. 20200918_232508.jpg

Speakers are on isolation pads, with slight tilt back, and tweeters are at ear level when seated. One reason I placed on top of subs (8" drivers) is I am using DSP to low-pass subs and high-pass speakers, both at 80hz, and wanted to enhance blending and eliminate sub localization. Time and further listening (and more room treatment) will tell if this setup stays or changes. Can you briefly explain "smearing" and why I may experience it?
 
I think he’s referring to to the satellites being affected by the vibrations from the subwoofers, smearing the higher frequencies as a result.
 
My NHT's have built in subs, no smearing has been detected in the 20 or so years I've has them. I've heard the term disparagingly applied to belt drive turntables and haven't heard it there either. :dunno:
 
I would think that if your subs are playing at a reasonable level, the vibration will affect the main speakers. Also having isolation under your speakers means they aren't locked in place. When your woofer moves in and out, you don't want the cabinet to be moving along with it. Best to have the mains rigidly connected to a stand. For the most accurate sound only the drivers should be moving. An isolation pad won't address this issue IMO.
