imral3's system progression - aka - new house, new listening room

Was wondering when you would drape the TV screen. Subs now appear to be more appropriately placed also but I've found that moving them around a bit can surprise you as far as how it changes the sound in your listening position. Just a few inches sometimes can make a significant difference....you'll see, keep listening and have fun as I know you are!

Things appear to be coming along quite nicely.

Thanks guys! Yes, things are moving along slowly, I mean nicely. ;) One, I like to listen to a change(s) before making more. I think getting familiar with and understanding the impact your change(s) have made is critical to making any real improvement. Two, working with a shoestring budget helps with the snail's pace!

Smart way to proceed....it takes time to fully evaluate the impact of a change. For me, that means several listening sessions. And, yes, working with a budget will definitely help you cool your jets amigo! Still, I'm seeing you make progress, methodically planning each step of the way. Left channel first reflection point may need to be addressed, but I'm sure you are aware of that unless the pictures are skewing my perspective. Some more drapes, maybe similar to what you have on the front wall, might do the job.

They most certainly are! ;) I have long term plans to temporarily seal off a couple windows, from the inside only. It's good to have a son-in-law who is a contractor when you can no longer do the physical labor yourself! Now I just gotta wedge myself into his schedule. Lol!

I just place my absorbers in the window when I want to have a “session”. Easy enough and it keeps my wife happy...
Just me now, no WAF :)whip:) to contend with. Just RAF (my name is Ray) ;)
I will be testing options, including some similar to yours. Whatever I wind up with will be reversible in case I want to sell the house. But, it's been less than two months. I'll continue to share my trials and tribulations.

Nice, very creative thinking! I kinda do that with my TV covering (large throw) that only goes on when I'm having a session. I also move my chair to a certain position for those times and it goes back to its usual spot afterwards. Yes, in my case, all this keeps Nancy happier so this is good....I also have six large windows in my room, 72" X 32" which make for a beautiful vista, but glass is definitely counter-indicated so I put cellular shades in those and the balance seems very good. That's another idea for you Ray, it really works quite well and is otherwise useful too!

Minor rearrangement of equipment, rerouting of the audio signal and tidying up of audio cables:20201031_152333.jpg

I'm really liking it! What would you say the distance is from the front of one of your speakers to your ear on the same side (e.g. left speaker tweeter to left ear)? And, from your forehead to the TV screen? I'm just trying to get an idea of the space as compared to what I'm listening in. Very nice job so far and I'll bet you are having some nice times listening now eh?

Best estimates without help measuring:
Speaker to ear is 90".
Forehead to TV is 130".
Best sounds I've gotten from my modest gear for sure!
Thanks for following along and enjoy the musics!!
Ray

I was thinking those would be the dimensions.....mine are 90 and 115! I'll try to do a panorama shot from my listening space....

I wasn't thinking and posted a picture here of my listening space so I have edited it out so as not to hijack your thread. So sorry Ray.

I wouldn't have minded at all! I missed it! Lol! Start your own thread and tell us all about it!

In short, I have what I believe to be a pretty nice system but the room.....next to impossible! Open on 3 sides, 14 foot ceilings, beautiful but not a sound room at all! In adapting to things, I have created more of a near-field configuration wherein the speakers tend to overwhelm the room so you aren't as affected by the negatives, if that makes sense?
