Just got a couple of 4' artificial ficus trees today:

Will be placed at point of first reflection at side walls. Will be taking REW measurements soon but, contractors start work on my house tomorrow morning. So it'll have to wait.

Enjoy the musics!!

Small changes. Moved listening chair back almost 4 inches. A definite change. Not always a guaranteed betterment but, a change is always good for a while. Needs some time listening and evaluating. Also adjusted subs a bit. Today's measurement:

Another boring REW graph. Ha!

Moved speakers towards listening chair 7" - helped smooth out the mid to upper mids a bit... I'll take it!

Do you remember what it was that flattened that null?? I'm still trying to put 2 and 2 together and maybe fix a few nulls of my own
Remember? Hell no! I don't even remember who I ate for dinner last nite. Lol. However, I looked back in my REW measurements and notes indicate I raised the subwoofer xover from 60hz to 140hz... WOW that's high!

But, I've made many, many changes since then, including new listening chair and speaker positions, and multiple subwoofer adjustments. Xover for my 4 subs is currently set at 110hz with a gentle BW12 slope.

Hope this helps!
Enjoy the musics!!

I've been thinking that your approach could yield a really good sound/cash outlay ratio, especially if you are timing your purchases to when things are on sale.

It seems as though there is always something new in the mix which is eventually going to eat into the ratio.

How deep are you with just what you are currently using?

What were your best purchases?

Also, what would you not have bought if you were to starting over now?

With sales/refurbed new stock prices I'm in at just under $2k. Truly a budget system. MSRP would have put it around $2,500.

To be honest all of what I'm currently using sounds fantastic. But the "aha!" moments came along with the Modi multibit and the Saga+.
Also, REW (free, yay!) is a game changer for bass.

Also, what would you not have bought if you were to starting over now
I would have only bought two, and not four, subwoofers. However, with this I would have probably gotten two 15" subs and placed them directly to the sides (near-field) of my chair.

No graph pic today, as it's not as good "looking" as it may have been in the past. However, lots of small changes over the last month or so... added some absorptive panels; changed speaker cables; plugged speaker ports; REW tweaks for subs; adjusted speaker toe-in and tilt.
Things have never sounded this good. Soundstage height, width and depth have increased dramatically.
I love this hobby (aka obsession) because I love musics!! And I want it to sound as good as it can in my room with my budget gear and setup.

What are the absorption panels you added constructed from and where did you add them?
Nothing special nor uber effective. Was able to get my hands on 3" foam cushion pieces. Have two (6" thickness) in each front corner, leaning against side walls. This had the biggest, though still minimal, impact in the 200hz region, bringing it down a couple notches.

Now we need data. ;)

Ugh, you beat it out of me. Green line is the newest measurement:20221210_184240.jpg
I don't know why I have the steep drop off around 800hz!?!
More seating position and speaker toe-in will hopefully bring that back up and more in line with the lower frequencies.
Hopefully I can get to it within a week's time.

So the only change in acoustic treatments from blue line to green line is the 6" of foam in the corners? What did the REW tweaks for the subs consist of, specifically?

Yes, just that foam. However, I plugged the speaker ports with rolled up socks. Lol. That is what really cut down on that 95hz peak. For the subs I added a high-pass xover at 30hz in addition to raising the low-pass xover to 120hz with a gentle 6db slope.

Much flatter. Changes made included sub HP xover of 30BW12; repositioning of chair and speakers; panels put on 45° angle of front corners & raised 8" above floor.
