I still have some and use them in my bedroom system. The first thing I did was pull the EMIT and test it to make sure it's working. Then I swapped in some .75amp fast blow fuses to protect the EMIT instead of the 1 1/4 that's in there. In all the time I've had them either in my main system or moving them around, they always sounded good and never blew the fuses. I had to reseal the cabinets and the drivers as well. When working correctly they sound pretty dang good for such a small speaker.

Be warned, the EMIT is damn near the finest transducer ever created, you'll have to go to true ribbon tweeters to get in the same ballpark without the 'shrill' of horns or uber-hot tweeters.

Are the Emit tweeters easy to come by? I have no idea in what condition the speakers are that I just won.

EMITs are readily available, and even dead ones can be repaired in a lot of cases.
Well didn't Infinity get bought out so new equipment is almost no longer existent? Sorry I'm new to this vintage speaker stuff. Only being 23 years old I don't know a whole lot.

Infinity has been owned by Harman Internatational since 1983, when they were still in the thick of producing high-end speakers (yours were made in the mid 1970s), most with EMIT tweeters. Of late, as Harman acquired more high-end brands, they've been making mostly mass-market speakers (although some still come well reviewed for their price).

Agreed--I didn't mean to imply that you could just call up and order a few, but there are lots of them available on the used market--not like some drivers that are virtually "unobtanium". With shipping costs climbing like crazy, there are lots of big older speakers being parted out, so EMITs are a fairly common commodity on the used market.

My QE's blew my mind when I got them. Compared to the Polk monitor 5jr's I was using, they were the obviously stronger design. When I upgraded, I stayed with Infinity.
My QE's experienced a huge improvement when I replaced the capacitor with a Dayton. Massive day and night style difference.

I've got my replacement cap on order along with some other things. I'm also going to replace the old spring clips with some 5-way binding posts because the clips are almost useless they've been used so much. My problem is they look horrendous but work so well. I've been thinking of getting another pair in better shape.

Those cabs are terrible quality. Infinity put all their budget into driver design and production. They sound great at that price point because they skimped on cab quality. I might suggest just getting a vinyl wrap for them or some nicer veneer.
EDIT: This isn't a knock against the QE. I think it's a great trade off, and I wish more companies would make moves like that. They sound wonderful.

Qe's are an awesome little speaker. The cabs are decent, but the vinyl finish leaves a lot to be desired. But heck, they were at the budget end of the Quantum series, and at least Infinity didn't skimp on the drivers.
I'm in the process of restoring a pair right now, including rebuilding the crossovers and changing to 5-way binding posts. Going to refinish them with a nice cherry veneer and black grill cloth, too. Should look pretty nice when they're finally done.

I agree, the best tweeters that I've heard next to Magnepan true ribbons.
They're available but they aren't cheap.
