Good pick-up on some pretty nice small speakers. I have a pair and really enjoy them.

I'm not sure what I'd do to remove the rust. Whatever you try, be VERY CAREFUL. The shiny membrane with the traces that you see through the slots in the tweeter face plate is made of very thin mylar and is easy to damage. The traces are thin strips of metal adhered to the mylar that make up the tweeter's voice coil and, again, are easy to damage.

I have a pair also, but mine are probably a newer version. My tweeter is different. That woofer in yours might be a replacement, but not quite sure. Mine are the clear polys.

I have gotten rust off by using a sponge that has various grits of sanding paper attached to the. I know that Home Depot has them for sanding drywall. I got a set of 3 different grits of sponge blocks at some type of craft store.

You will really like these speakers. :thmbsp:

There are some pretty powerful magnets in the the tweeter, and I wouldn't do anything that scrapes the metal/rust off, because it might jump right into the openings through which the tweeter fires. I would try a sticky tape to pull of what I could and then leave it alone. Maybe a coat of wax or a bit of WD 40 wiped on and off to protect the metal from further rusting.

I have the same problem with a pair I picked up at a thrift store over the weekend. Both tweeters have rust specs. I'm going to try metal polish being careful not to flood the ribbons.

Your's do not appear to be Qe's, but rather RSe's, which were the successors to the Qe's. The Qe's had a square chrome tweeter front plate and a paper-cone woofer with rubber surround; the RSe's switched to poly woofers with foam surrounds and a round tweeter front plate. The Qe's shown in the OP's first post are lock stock.

BTW, Boonaroo, I hope you aren't playing those speakers in that condition. You run the risk of real damage to those woofers if they haven't been refoamed.

Qe's.........

Howdy,
I have Qe's with the clear poly woofers, and according to the paperwork,
and a original ad copy, they are 'stock',....They don't look like the OP's
photos either........Oak veneer, dk.brown fabric screen covers, purchased
from original owner........Cheers, T:music:

You may be right about the model I own. I can't get to them right now so I can't double check.

That pic was taken when I first got them. Just dabbed some rubber cement on the slight cracks to check them out before the refoam.

I originally started collecting 8" 2-ways a few years ago. I think that I had probably 10 pair. The wife said I needed to get rid of a few so I only have three now: ADS L 570's, the pictured Infinity and EPI 100.
