Is the D6800EEE-S stylus compatible with a 681EEE cartridge?

Yes, of course. You can use the more expensive Shibata as well.

Okay, thank you. I was concerned that the D6800EEE-S stylus was only meant for the
681EEE-S cartridge only, whereas I have the 681EEE.

I believe the bodies were all the same, the specific model number only had to do with what stylus was on it.

Stanton 680 and 681 are identical bodies with 681 being individually calibrated.
There were several different styli available, EE, EEE, EE-S, etc from the factory and they are all interchangeable.

Only because original stereohedron was nude, the cuts were not that different really. If I get time later this week I will retip mine with nude MR, it should be interesting IMO.

Big issue too is Shibata got obsoleted by the MicroRidge and MicroLine and other more advanced exotic tips. I would love to see Jico make a D6801 SAS, that should be a really awesome way to make these MI classics sing.

Electrically, yes a 681EE and 681EEE are very close. Any differences border on negligible. However, the 681EE body and stylus are slightly physically different from the EEE. The EE cart body and has the mounting ears at a different angle, with a complimentary angle change to the stylus to get a 15 degree VTA as designed vis-a-vis the EEE.

A stylus for a EE can fit in a EEE body and will work, (and vice-versa) but getting the VTA and SRA right will be tricky. They aren't plug and play compatible without making a few critical adjustments to get the performance expected.

I am not in disagreement. But it is interesting that the angle of the mounting ears is different but the typical M.O. is to have the top of the cartridge parallel to the record. Adjusting the cartridge to be parallel to the record negates any difference in the mounting ears.
VTA is correctly determined by measuring the angle from the center of the stylus tip to the pivot point of the armature or cantilever according to Shure. Others define VTA as the angle of the cantilever in relation to the record.
