I had the same thoughts. Those mid-century furniture designs are groovy. Would make a great end table.
If it works perfectly will the sound be good? I mean is this record player a good one to listen to my vinyls?

Not likely. It will sound like a player built in the 1950s. It is a quality piece because of the styling. Since the TV show Mad Men, a lot of people covet Mid-Century Modern (MCM).

Please note, the word vinyl applies to both singular and multiples. If you must use an s suffix call them LP's.

What would be neat would be to begin collecting 78 records to play on this antique player. They were meant for this type of TT.
For the vinyl/vinyls/vinyles, what ever?... that you want to keep in great shape, you could later pick up a decent TT to play them with.
As already mentioned, the sound won't be that great as compared to what you can achieve with up to date speakers.

That record player, will sound pretty good if it's tuned up. Tuned up would include replacing old capacitors, a new stereo compatible cartridge, record changer lubricated, possibly new idler wheel, and probably a new power cord.
Chances of it "working perfectly" as-is, are close to zero, unless it's been serviced recently - age unfortunately isn't quite that forgiving.
If you're a casual record collector, with a modest collection of "vinyls" of low value, and no intention to buy a high end system, I wouldn't worry overly much about wear and tear. If you want to play valuable records, well, don't go near something like this.
