JBL 100t vs. HPM 100

I have a set of HPM 100's (as seen in my avatar) and am thinking of trading them for a set of JBL 100t's. The person who has them is and hour and a half away from me so I cannot go there and just listen. Any thoughts?

What's wrong with you HPM 100's? If you are looking for new speakers try something different instead of something similar. You might just like it.

FWIW, if they're in as good condition as your HPM-100s, I'd probably trade, especially if yours are the 100/50 watt max/min versions (as opposed to the 200/100 version.)

the 100t's are way better, no comparison imo. i have both, and enjoy the j's way more.

Rolled off highs? Not the 4 sets I have heard.
HPM 100s? Has anybody measured them?

It's certainly the case with L100/4311....

As a 4-way with a supertweeter kicking in at 12 kHz, I would not expect HPM 100 to have rolled-off highs, no, but I'm looking for verification of that, because it's clearly shown in the published response:

They are certainly "forward" in the midrange, judging from that, as well....

What type of music do you listen to most??
Why is that an issue?

If the speaker is accurate, it will faithfully reproduce whatever type of music is sent to it.

Is there something inherent in one type of music as opposed to another which would necessitate using different speakers to play them? :dunno:

i listen to zep, cream wolfmother, kings of leon, white stripes, boston

also, are the 100t's comparable to the 100 centuries with the white woofers?
are they the same speaker?

NO NO NO

They are much much much better. They don't sound the same, the L100T has far superior acoustic qualities to the L100. The HPM-100 is similar to the original L100, but adds a super-tweeters. HPMs do not sound natural. I am using a pair of HPM-60s(hpm-100 with 10" woofer) and am very disappointed. I cannot wait to finish my DIY speakers.

The Original l100 is a impress and dress speaker. I own 2 pairs, I should know. I heard a set of l100Ts a while back, and was disappointed when I came home to my old L100s.

L100T>L100.

NO, but I'm now starting to suspect you believe they are, and that's why you want them.

Read my post #3 again knowing 100 Century is L100.

well I guess this one is about settled. :D

BTW, i like the HPM 60 better, does not go as low but more balanced somehow. IMHO

Oh yeah, I put away the L100s in place for the HPM-60s.

The 4401s I have sound the best, but I like bass, and the 6.5" woofers cannot deliver the bass I like.

No they are not the same speaker, The L100t, and especially the L100t3 will crush the L100 Century and HPM 100 in every way.

I've never heard the JBL l100t's, but I have a pair of L100t3's sitting next to a pair of Pioneer Hpm 100's. The JBL's sound so much better! I'm not a fan of the HPM 100's. I only have them because I took them back in trade for a set of HPM-150's. The HPM-150's easily kicked butt on the HPM-100's. This is the third time I've had HPM-100's and the third time they'll hit the road. Brad
