jbl l110 refoam

its time to refoam my jbl l110s it seems jbl does not offer the foam rings any more,are there any refoam
kits that are a close or the same as the orginals?

Hi Darrelb all my foam kits for JBL are purchased on EBay from member looneytune2001 Ric has the right size for those Many people use his. I have used close to 50 of them and never had a problem. Hope this helps

JBL has never made replacement foam, only recone kits which are no longer available for your speakers.

I am very happy with Simply Speakers for JBL foam kits, they also will refoam your speakers if you wish to send them in

I bought rubber surrounds for a pair of LE111Hs in my L110s from an eBay seller in Japan in 2019. Only one woofer needed to be done. They both had JBL OEM recone kits installed in late 2006. I suspect one kit was JBL’s old formula for the foam and the other one was the improved formula since it is still intact almost 2 years later. JBL recone kits “were” the best way to go, since they are no longer available I would recommend spending a little extra and go with the rubber surrounds.
I am hard pressed to hear any difference between the woofer with rubber surround and the OEM reconed woofer, whereas I could here a difference between a woofer that had been just refoamed and one that had the OEM recone kit installed. The replacement foam surrounds are not as compliant as the surrounds on the recone kits. Unless they have improved the surround kits I would go with rubber surrounds. I will never have to replace them in my lifetime.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Rubber will change the mass and the termination, both outside of the original design, typically are less flexible, and finally yes, the rubber will change properties with age (and even with temperature).

I strongly suggest that the replacement surround is as close as possible to the original, your choice though.

I had a pair woofers from a pair of Dynaco A35s, that I had purchased the early mid 70's, that had butyl rubber surrounds. They had been stored in my garage ( subject to temperature extremes) since the mid 80s until I sold them four or five years ago. Being around 40 years old, they had no evidence of cracking or deterioration that I could see or feel. The after market foam surrounds affect the sound of the woofers more than those with the aftermarket rubber surrounds at least to my ears. It's hard to compare since one usually no longer has the woofer with it's original surrounds. So time will tell. If I should need to refoam any of my LE111Hs, I'll be using the rubber surrounds if they are still available.
