Our family turntable since the late 60s was a Dual 1009. Came with a Shure M44MG. That cart sounded robust and perhaps a bit bass heavy, which was great since back then we didn't have loudspeakers that could really play low.
Still have the turntable and cart. They both survived a young boy's abuse, even the turntable playing upright, which was easy since the plinth is an orthogonal box.
The cart still plays fine, even after all these years and at least 10 years of heavy use by me, before I replaced the cart for a Stanton 681EEE that never sounded right on that TT
Eventually, I returned the original M44MG to the Dual and did a partial restoration. Still sounds good - for what it is.

I could not find their price...as we all know over the last few years Jico' prices have increased quite a lot and have become IMHO excessive.

When I was looking, I rarely saw any M44 / M55 bodies for what I'd consider cheap. And that was just before Shure discontinued them.
Ive seen several M44 bodies for sale less than $40 Over just the last 6 months. All the 44 bodies are the same, whether a C or -7. In contrast, late production DJ units go for $200+ in many listings.
I have this -7 model. Old model from the 70s. Often go for $20-$30.

I rarely saw any in the $20-$30 range, and when I did, they looked like the went through a war or came off the Titanic.

I rarely bid on items at all anymore. Most of the time, the bidding goes nuts in the last minute, and I get outbid no matter how long I wait or how much I bid. Screw that ****. I use BIN or Make Offers when I can, and quite often find better deals that way.

Never seen the white one before. When was that one produced?
The high price of the late models is justification enough for Jico to resume producing these. It would be nice if they made improvements to them along the way, such as split pole pieces, etc. I suppose if they did they would no longer be considered 'authentic'. I like the 2 versions I have (old brown body and new black) but the lack of a decent needle will always keep these relegated to beater use, and paying good money for a premium needle on a simple generator seems to be a waste. It's the same dilemma I have with the at95 and 3600 cartridges lol.
That’s GREAT for me! I only bid $20 bucks on that M44C. I got it for the opening bid. $17. I love people that don’t bid!

Since I’ll have 2 M44s, I’ll sell the 44C for $100. Maybe more if it’s rare.

With the Swiss nude, N55E, $35, tracking at 1.6 grams, it sounds great. Very quiet in the groove. I play my best records on it. But it does justice to beater records.
