Precisely, more or less the same thing. Strikes me as a Jico publicity thing.

Namiki supplies them with the diamonds and they also supply them to Audio Technica for their carts. It's probably another component of the stylus assembly.

If one can interpret anything from Seth's OP, it's the diamond. Namiki does make tips for AT but, as far as I know, JICO is the only company usinf their "SAS" type of tip and so they may be Namikis only customer for them. It may be that Namiki is no longer willing or able to make them at a price JICO is able to justify.

I didn't know that. If so, it's worth noting that the AT440MLa is also discontinued.

It was replaced with the AT440MLb which has a redesigned cantilever.

Yes, both LPGear/LP Tunes and Turntableneedles have stock. So far, as far as I can see, neither has bumped the prices.

I wonder if the hyper-elliptical stylus will still be available in the future. Although I don't really like mine on my Shure cart, but since I did not purchase directly from Jico I may have not received the same stylus that I would have if I purchased from Jico. The other things about that replacement stylus that I purchased is, it was from turntableneedles and they are not affiliated with Jico. So who know's what brand I have.
I, like needlestein, have wanted to hear a SAS, but the price is too high. A few years from now they will probably be double the price on ebay.

I made a big mistake in my previous post and now have edited it to include the word "not" concerning turntableneedles. Receiving the first twisted stylus in a T/N package and the second in a Tonar package, make me wonder about these aftermarket stylus. Anyway, I have read people like the SAS and I hope Jico continues to help us with our lp playing needs.

but they found an 1,111 carat and a 404 carat diamond in the last three months. Plenty of diamond dust to make a big pile of styli!! Coule be anything associated with the inability to get the parts. An exclusive contract by someone else, lack of reasonably priced supply, any number of things. All conjecture at this point.
Be sure to buy up the SAS remaining stock. Don't want to miss out.

The cantilever is made of special aluminum alloy tube and boron.......From LP gear website. I always wanted to try one of these, might just order one. If they are trying to to increase sales, seems to be working, LOL. I hope they plan on a suitable replacement.

On www.turntableneedles.com, the SAS V15VMR replacement has gone from $187 (yesterday, around 9AM) to $258 (today, minutes ago.)If anyone is on the fence, get 'em before they go any higher!!

IMHO the reason for Jico's step can be found in this video:
It shows Morita-san, the man who assembles the SAS styli. He clearly states that the wire tension system of the SAS stylus makes it a special stylus. And he seems to be the only person in the company who has the required skills to manufacture SAS styli. My guess: Demand has exceeded Jico's / Morita-san's production capacity.
Jico say: "We endeavor to refine the original design and bring you the next generation of Super Analogue Stylus as soon as possible."
My gut feeling tells me that the SAS styli will return either more expensive (to slow down demand) or with a simplier suspension system (which can be assembeld by less trained personnel).

Jeez... I looked 2 or 3 times yesterday, trying to decide if SAS for my M97xE was worth $200... now it's $60 more. Sigh.
