Jimmy Carter has passed away

Also known as the world’s most famous Sunday School teacher

I was just watching a a news program, with his former pastor telling a story about Jimmy.

Apparently, at their church in Plains GA- there was a balcony railing that was failing. It was becoming precarious for some of the older people in the church, due to its wobbliness.

One day, in the middle of a week, Jimmy Carter- one of the deacons of the church- shows up (accompanied by the requisite Secret Service agents, of course), and proceeds to break out tools, remove the railing, and take it to his home workshop. There, he rebuilt the railing, brought it back to the church, and reinstalled it later in the same day.

Didn't make a big deal about it- it just needed to be fixed, and he was the one who could fix it, readily. So he did.

That was Jimmy Carter. No fuss, just do what needed to be done.

The very definition of a good man. Heard him described as a man who used the Presidency as a stepping stone to go on to greater things.

Both he and his brother were characters within their different respective ways.

There was a sincere honesty in Jimmy, oft lacking in gov't leaders, and he had it to the nth degree.

Even after holding office in troubled times, afterwards he still cared for people, making a difference in the world... in an unselfish manner.


A long life, but also long in what good things he started and finished.


RIP Mr. Carter.

President Carter set an unequaled example of honesty and morality. It's a shame that flash almost always out-trumps substance.
