I will try to buff it out. I've actually destroyed a finish years ago on something else buffing too much. Probably just leave it alone, if nothing else it's a parts machine. The TA's seem to both be in good condition.

Very useful thanks. Specifically for me shows how the QL Y5F relates to the QL Y55F and QL Y3F.Long time lurker, and a big vintage JVC turntable fan. I have both an L-A31 and a QL-Y5F, and both are great tables from the golden era. I have the QL-Y5F paired with an AT VM540ML cartridge, and it shocks me every time I play it at how good it is, even with less than stellar vinyl.
I saw there was some confusion in the earlier posts regarding the JVC numbering. Don't necessarily assume that a higher number or double digits is better in the JVC lineup. It's more a product of when the turntable was released. Here is the breakout from high to low by year for the US market using JVC's own available brochures:
1978: QL-10, QL-8, QL-A7, QL-7, QL-5, QL-F4, QL-A2, JL-F30, JL-A20
1980: QL-Y5F, QL-Y3F, L-F71, QL-F61, QL-A51, L-F41, L-A31, L-A21,
1982: QL-Y55F, QL-Y7, QL-Y3F, L-F71, QL-F61, QL-A51, L-F41, L-A31, L-A10
1984: QL-A75, QL-Y66F, QL-F320, QL-A220, L-F210, L-A120
As previously speculated, the Q models are Quartz Locked, L denotes coreless direct drive motor, Y denotes the Electro Dynamic Servo Tonearm, F denotes Full Auto operation, and A denotes either Auto Lift or Auto Return depending on the model.
Thanks Bill.@E.Man , have you looked at purchasing from the Japanese market? There is always a lot of listings on Yahoo Buyee for used JVC/Victor TT. Shipping to you should be a lot cheaper than what it cost to ship here.
Voltage issues really are not an issue if you get the proper transformer.
That's a bummer that you lost everything to fires, can't even imagine.

here is no Japan Post available at this time and a number of courier cost complaints;
