JVC QL-?? owners thread

Yes I saw the post and the machine, it's still nice to see the making of something neat. Maybe later, for the machine shop! I spoke of 3d cause of the ease to make numerous batches of a part once the plans are drawns even if nothing beats handskills.

Thanks, and yet, it looks a bit small in compare of a ql-a70, but yes it's really pretty and works like a charm. I was thinking to dismantle the arm one day and make it redo into aluminium or something, cause it's made of plastic currently for some parts. It's hardly sightable and when listening, even less believable so I am curious of how it would be if full aluminium. I am thinking of puting them some yamamoto wood headshells. Later, I'll redo the plinths cause our turntables really deserve a nice job.The serie you have had a much better work so it's less important but on the y44 and a70, it looks good but it's very basical.

What about some damping material as well at the base of the aluminium platter you'll add?

When I picked up the rebuilt TT 71 motor drive from a member here, it had some Dynamat carefully applied to the underside of the platter. Looks like a smart thing to do.
I don't know if I would take that tonearm apart, they are delicate assembly's. I would think that Victor knew what they were doing when they built it.
Not sure where your from but Yahoo Buyee in Japan usually has listings for Victor parts, tonearms, plinths and motors. The Japanese QL-7 looks like it has a much nicer plinth and comes with a wood veneer finish. Shipping isn't cheap though.

FWIW, I don't hear no feedback from the plinth resonanting on the QL-Y44F, and that's with it placed right next to a bookshelf speaker that has good thumping bass (I know this is not ideal setup, but I have no other place to put it. and besides, it doesn't seem to be a problem).

I know this is not scientific but... there you go.

Yes, that too could be a solution with Dynamat, it is also used in Germany which is European home for lot of Ql. For now I am reading the manual because they gave instructions to repair the plinth : it have been a lil damaged thanks to some careful deliverers on its way to its new home. I also need to get some gold paint. Fortunately, some old manuals contains the informations for caring such issues.

Yes, they do are and especially on german forums, they insist it must be done by extremly skilled people, which are rarer and rarer or not touched, apparently they were dismantling it to overhaul it and noticed an improvement later. Oh yes, they did, that's why their arms are so liked and sincerely, the y44 arm is plastic but it really handles super well and deliver a beautiful sound. It is only curiosity, that may not happens.

The guy also owns Micro Seiki and some others, it's a bit of a museum of dd turntables.

It does have a much better plinth than others, it is a laminated construction similar to the jl-b77 so very worked, but those of the y44 and a70 are plywood small planks assembled as one big top and four small down as support. There is no resonance, actually the a70 is so big, it is sitting at less than a cm from the amplifier and nothing wrent wrong at all. I need more space. I just wanna give it something constructed like the plinth there is on ql-7 or higher models, with no big holes in the middle of course cause it doesn't need.

Oh yes, shipping isn't cheap, just got out of 200 bucks for shipping turntable plus vat. So, I am fine for now.

Hi Snuck, that German website was interesting, he has collected some really nice TT and holds the JVC/Victor high end models in high regard.
I really wish shipping from Japan to the US wasn't so expensive, it really adds to the cost.

Just picked up a QL-5!! Rubber on the feet have disintegrated...going to put a little work in and bring it back.

Yesterday another $30 "record player" popped up in my stream. But the photo didn't look like the regular old $30 trash...

Incredulous, I pressed "is this still available?" A quick reply "yes, do you want to come see it?"

Now this was 45 minutes away and I'm home with two kids doing school, so not easy to shoot over. So I laughed and told her "as much as I'd love to swoop in and take that, I have to tell you that you have something special. Go Google it and if you still want to sell it for $30, I'll be right over!"

Next morning I heard back. "Wow, thank you. I'm sorry to raise the price, but is $100 OK?" I don't think I've ever sent a PayPal faster! And the seller is stoked she got triple her asking price.

Seller said she got 40 offers, some desperately pushing serious cash, but just said "sorry, sold." I was first and I was nice and now ...
OHmagGERD I'm in Club Victor with my beautiful new QL-Y66F!

Always look closely at the $30 record players as ya might find something special!

Wow, shows that deals like that are still out there. And goes to show you being honest pays off. Good Karma.
With a little cleaning and polishing that will look great. Keep us posted on how it works. Looks like an AT cart?

BillWojo

AT cart (not sure which) with a tweaked stylus. Cosmetically it's really nice - no major scratches, chips or nicks. It definitely has several years of accumulated grit on and around the dust cover, but it seems like clean house schmaltz and not smokey garage residue. Powers up, spins, the buttons were a little sticky but all functions seem to work great!

Today I'll add a temporary cartridge for a listen. I've told my son that the SL-1200 M3D is his if he keeps practicing his DJing.

Such a beautiful bit of gear, obviously on another level from any TT I've ever owned. Build quality reminds me of my one truly epic thrift shop score: a mint Nakamichi ZX-7. (Which I quickly traded for the SX-1080 now at the center of my system.)

THANK YOU to all for the info and encouragement as I get up to (quartz locked) speed.

Yes, Germany is home of lot of Victor fans, usually rebuying from cheap the ones from Belgium or France because here, especially in France, to have a Victor gear was like being a peasant for lot of people.

You are lucky and you got an early christmas moment! Well, kindness and altruism are a rare treasure that is worth preserving. I am happy for you she was thanking you for your gesture toward her.

Just receives the subweight of the tone arm. It looks beautiful on it. But I need an heavier front to use it.

Victor x1 and magnesium 10g headshell aren't heavy enough, but sound amazing.

I finally paid the shipping for my tt-81, works flawlessly for now. And I'll be damned if I didn't just purchase a 101 with two arms and a carcass 1C71A672-92BC-45EE-B532-2319AEA53794.jpeg

Tell us more @brunomarks! Did they come down on the shipping? And where did you find a TT 101? What are the arms? Inquiring minds want to know.

BillWojo

No price drop on shipping. The arm on the new one is a 308L saec, the other arm is some weird little thing. I'll have to see what it is. The unit is working condition but has some moisture damage to the housing of the 101. It will need plating to be made whole again? Can it be done?

That is some type of anodized finish (I believe or something similar) and I don’t think it’s possible to fix. Or should say easily fixed by plating. I have similar issues on other jvc tables and never fixed.
