Kanye West...the World's Greatest Rock Star

Kanye v. Ted Nugent?
Who is the biggest a#$%ol*?
We know who the richest one is, but who is the most divisive within the AK community?

Hey I like Nugent but Kanye suck musicaly and I use that term loosly and his attitud stinks.

Wang Dang Sweet Poontang.

Hey, I love Geto Boys, and I don't call them "artists". Just like the phrase "diva" is routinely bandied about, tho few deserve that title.

The Geto Boys were good, and they were even filthier than Kanye has ever been. Funny in a bizarre sort of way, who raps about being "Chuckie" from the Childs Play movies?

Check the sources on that...all far conservative sites. Not trustworthy media outlets. Nor was he actually quoted as saying he wanted to leave the U.S., just that he was fed up with the racism he experienced.

He is racist to the core and it's reflected in everything he does. Black racists don't have to explain... it's just 'understood'... you know, the man and all that.

Exactly! If someone else gets nominated instead of his precious Beyonce for an award, he storms the stage because it's racist.

How about his own racism? He called mixed-race women "mutts", I can't wait for the conversation he'll have with his own daughter.

North : "Daddy, why am I a mutt?"
Kanye : "Who says you're a mutt, baby?"
North : "You did daddy, a few years before I was born."

So when Elvis, The Stones and The Beatles 'stole' from black musicians back in the day I guess it was and still is OK. But when a black artist 'steals' samples for his use to create new music it is not OK. Huh.

Did you even read my post? I mentioned a whole bunch of people who have sampled stuff. Try "Can I kick it?" by a Tribe Call Quest, or even "Rappers Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang. Both contain other peoples music, but they made it their own.

And here's another point. I can listen to Elvis, The Stones, or The Beatles in front of my four year old daughter, or an elderly relative, without having to worry about cursing.

Whether or not you agree West is good or great in your mind does not matter. He is talented and extremely smart. His first two or three albums are pretty damn good and are well worth a listen if you get a chance.

Talented, no. Smart, maybe, in that he can make his awful music and sell it for lots of money. If it wasn't for the cursing and racist language, maybe kids wouldn't be buying it as a form of rebellion against their parents. You know, just like Elvis back in the day.

And I'm out...

Lee.

Well...I have an opinion about what drives him, you can provide what you might think is why he gets so much attention. The racism he has experienced? Racism drives him. He is racist to the core and it's reflected in everything he does. Black racists don't have to explain... it's just 'understood'... you know, the man and all that. Taylor Swift thing... what's your explanation.. that ones easy.

You're just speculating about him blaming racism for Beyoncé losing to Taylor Swift. He's impulsive, plain and simple. But did he blame racism for this? No. You're putting words in his mouth.

"Black racists"...I take it you also believe white people have it so bad in this country, too? Time to turn off Fox "News".

I agree about the Geto Boys, well that I love them too. Their self titled album is definitely one of my favorite rap albums ever. I would still call them artists. The way I see it, I can't think of criteria that distinguishes music as performed by an artist or not. It's all just different ways of expression. Even something extremely repetitive as Wesley Willis' music is art. While he didn't understand music theory or really know how to play an instrument, what he performed was his sincerest form of expression that he was capable of.

Unfortunately this means I also have to consider Justin Bieber to be an artist. It's a compromise I have to make.

You have backed up your opinions with a very good counter argument.

Hats off. :thmbsp:

What exactly IS it that makes a song, a melody, or just a few notes stir our hearts and souls??

I have been singing "Peaches" by In The Valley Below for three weeks. Talk about a damned ear worm. Hope the rest of their new release is as good.

Kanye is racist now? So then why did he marry hyper privileged white woman and why is he having white babies with her? Would a racist marry outside of their own race? No. Words have very particular meanings. Not sure if people know this but you can't just take a word, in written form and skew it's meaning like that.

As for Taylor Swift vs Kanye West, to me that boils down to am almost simple rhetorical argument that had nothing to do with who said what at the MTV Music Awards. One artist was burned maple times by music pirating and openly embraces music streaming. The other is standing on the rail of the sinking ship of the traditional music industry, firmly grasping the rail of traditional album sales and refusing to hop ship to the future of the industry (for better or for worse). Maybe she thinks she's making a stand for other artists but she's really hurting her fans by telling them to pay what she's worth or get out.

I know which one I prefer.

Beyonce Knowles doesn't need his "support", how can he not know he's an embarrassment for her?

Oh yeah, the rock star question...

No, he's not. While rich and famous and always in the public eye, he is a poor example of being a rock star. He is far to transparent and whiny to be a rock star. There has to be mystery, mystique, a certain "je ne sais quoi" to be a rock star. Kanye has none of that, and being the worlds most arrogant man will never make up for it.

The best comparison I can think of, which has already been mentioned, is Liam Gallagher. He was an arrogant dick, who I wanted to hate, but couldn't. There was just something more there. It might be that I enjoyed the music more than Kanye's, but that's not the whole reason.

So by your logic all the other rap artists et al 'stole' their music also when they sampled other artists. Look, just because you don't care for him does not make him any less an artist than the other artists you listed.

Is he a grade 'A' a-hole? Yes. That isn't going to influence what I think about his music. Was Phil Spector a creeper murderer? Yes, but that won't influence what I think about the music he produced.
