KEF 105's ??????

Hi I have an offer to purchase of KEF 105's all new caps and internal wiring.
no grills though. $400 I had a pair of 104/2 and did not care for them any thoughts?

I owned the 105.2 and currently own the 105.1. I think they're brilliant especially for large orchestral pieces. $400 would be an absolute steal in the UK, but I have no idea what the going price is in Canada.

My dream speakers, I'll probably never own a pair, but I live in hope. The reviews at time of release praised realism, dynamics and imaging as being in the top class for these - what more could you want?

You likely didn't care for the 104/2's because they have some areas that require attention. Most notably, the ferro fluid in the tweeters, the donuts on the bass drivers, and they could also benefit from a recap.

With that said, the 105's are in a different league in my opinion and at that price are well worth grabbing.

Had a pair for a while -- really nice speakers. Helps if you have plenty of power, but not absolutely necessary. Really beautiful sounding at power, though. Check the drivers to make certain they all are original and work; don't want to have to replace the Bextrene woofs.

Highly recommended, and for $400, a deal. Sold mine for plenty more quite easily.

Going price in Canada seems to be $600-$750.

Don't worry if you did not like the 104.2, they sound very different. The 105, 105.2 and 105.4 are earlier designs with the classic Kef sound while the 104.2 was made to suit North American tastes at the dawn of the CD era and was a runaway bestseller as a result but not all music lovers liked it compared to the earlier designs.

If the work was well done and they are clean you should grab them, it is a no lose proposition at that price.

As a 105.1 owner I would say $400 is a great deal. These speakers have some of the best midrange I have ever heard. On a side note, they are very revealing and will expose any weaknesses in your system.

If they have in fact been recapped and all drivers are original and working then yes $400 is a good deal. They don't come along too often, oh and I think they look better without the grills on.
