Kenwood Supreme 500 on Ebay

I already have two of those... so a third one won't hurt! :D

I'll be bidding on it...

How much nicer than a KA9100? I have one of those already, but suffer from Supreme Envy from time to time. ???.

I asked the seller if they could post some nudies - no response. Seller has answered 6 other questions but not mine.

Did someone here win the Kenny?

I decided to drop out as I already have two 500s and now a 600.

The face on that thing doesn't look to good.
He described as nicked and scratched, you're right. Sold for $294, which is about right for the condition, IME. Of course, when they've been rode hard and put down wet you never know what else to expect.
There is a current CL "auction" on Mpls. CL for a Marantz 2215, Pioneer 1100 (?) TT, and a Thorens MK 160. The seller won't say if any of it works but is seeking best offers. I dislike that. :thumbsdn:

Jocko-

It's in the same family for sure, but the 500 and 600 use all discrete output transistors in lieu of the "Power Pack" IC-based output found in the KA-9100. I can't say it make a huge difference in the sound or performance of the units, but it does make the Supreme gear a bit easier to service.

Both units have dual power transformers (dual power supplies) and are built extremely well...the 500/600 get a slight nod in terms of overall construction, but the KA-9100 is no slouch.

If you're looking for a sleeper, keep an eye out for the KA-8300...I think that's all discrete outputs (like the supreme) but has the look and feel of the 9100...

You know that first hand? The only reason I ask is I saw other members posting the opposite. This could be like the Yamaha veneer situation.

The KA-8300 does not have discrete outputs (has power packs like the 9100). However, the KA-8100 has discrete outputs and is well regarded. (the KA-8006 also has discrete outputs, but is a bit older).

The 8100 is a great integrated amp! It is not in the class of the 650 or the 907 but it does have some of the family DNA.

I own both a 600 and a 9100. While the sound quality of the 9100 is comparable (IMHO the 600 is better), the build quality is another matter completely (particularly the switches and knobs). Sort of like the build difference between a Corvette and a Ferrari or Mercedes. They just look and feel like a much higher quality. I think the build quality of the Supreme series is a step or two above the 9100 series. Though I don't want this to be interpreted as demeaning 9100s, since they are great units.

I'd take the lower powered 8100 because of the outputs. I also think the meters placement make the 9100 look awkward but they are useful.

While I like the gold finish of the 650, I'd like to get a silver 600 to go with my 600T. The 650T is hard to find AND expensive.

Interesting about the 8100... I have one of those that I haven't hooked up yet... :scratch2:

I have to check that one out over the holiday weekend!

Trade ya a 500 for the 650........ then you would be all matchy matchy :D Too bad you're so far away.

ps. anyone here get the Model 500 that was on ebay with a $250 BIN last week? It was partially restored.
