Yes could have been Karateka. This was in Germany, and the time frame '85 right on. I remember the screen opponent were various human figures, but every once in awhile it was a charging bull. The only way to stop this brute was to drop to one knee and deliver a straight punch to the nose. A fraction of a second too soon or too late it would run you over.

If anyone gets a lead on the foam material for the speaker fronts please let me know! I have a pair of 1's in great shape but alas missing the foam on both speaker.

Hi Flathead I'll try to work it out. Its quite soft foam that takes an impression when you push into it, the impression takes a while to come back. Will let you know if I can find it.

A note. the KLH ABC system was an early implementation of Servostatic style woofer control. And overall worked very well.

Appears to be a quite soft open cell foam about 1/4" thick. It has a very slow recovery. So when you stick your finger into it and pull it out, it takes about a minute to restore back and even then not complety with a small dimple left. In my travels I'll see if I can find anything similar.

Ok so I finally got the Bass computer and fired them up. Now the Bass Computer calls for a 13-14V AC plug pack, I could only get a 12V AC. The unit turns on but I'm pretty sure it's not doing what it should do as the bass sounds pretty rolled off and a freq sweep confirmed that its behaving as if the box is not connected basically rolling off at 100Hz. So going to source a 14V AC plug pack and try again, also going to recap the 4 caps in the box (see pic).
I have check the connection of the box a bunch of times and I'm pretty sure I've got it hooked up correctly. I'm using an integrated amp with pre out and main in so using the appropriate conections on the box for that. I've got the wires from the box plugged back into the amps speaker terminals along with the speakers wires. Correctly matched box wires to speaker wires. I also did what the operating instruction suggested before connecting to the speakers i.e. playing a track with lots of bass and max volume to see if the light moves from left to right above the in/out (which it does)
Anything else I could be doing wrong here?
Anyway even without the ABC working properly I can get an impression of the mid and highs: There are indeed very very nice speakers. Slightly warm and laid back compared to what I'm used to (JBL nut here) but just really enjoyable to listen to. nice pinpoint location of vocals in the center of the sound stage off to the distance. I can somehow already tell that they need to be recapped if that makes sense just gut feel tells me the highs will shine a bit more so going to recap the x overs and the box.

Your listening impressions mirror what I remember if these. Funny you say you're a JBL "nut"; prior to these I had some JBL 112s

L112's...very nice. Yeah connecting up the ABC did require a bit of checking and re checking. But pretty sure I got it all right in the end.

Hi Bakes do you have the original AC wall wart? If so could you please take a pick of the plug side with the details on it. Want to confirm if itals 13AC 220mA. Trying to source the closest I can to this as I suspect thia may be then issue

Thanks hunter. Trying to track down an equivalent one is proving very hard. I think there's a generic one I can get that is 13v AC 400mA.

Here a photo of the power adaptor for the 1's.
Turns out that the company that made these was local to me and unfortunately went out of business in th 1980's.
Do you have the original directions for the abc box? I have it around, if I could find it I may be able to scan it.

When we had our Audio store back in the day sold KLH prior to and during the ABC series, I have a pair of KlH 2 in my closet now but no computer. I had a set of 1's for a long time. They are great speakers, I really like the sound of the 2's nice imaging and great soundstage. After this series KLH made a 3 way called the classic 5 it was a 12inch 3 way have looked for info but no info that I have found. The classic 5 was a great sounding speaker that could really pound it out.
