KLH 5 knob removal

Hello gang!

I’m trying to get this crossover out so I can work on it.

I can’t for the life of me get the knobs off the back.

Any tips?

Little tiny set screws holding the knobs on?
If not you may just need to fabricate something to pry them off with.

EDIT/ADDED---Looks like you need to remove the woofer to get at the screws holding the crossover to the cabinet. And hope it's not glued as well.

I tried using some paracord to wrap around and slowly pull off. No dice. I don’t want to pull too hard and break something.

Alright! Recap was a success!

I recapped only one of my speakers so far so that I could test the difference.

Test: I set my Scott Tube to mono, found pink noise on YouTube, and then flipped from Left to Right. The left speaker is the one I recapped. There is a clear difference between the frequency response.

I also tested Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams, still with amp on mono, unfortunately the mic on my phone is not good enough to reproduce the difference. Huge. Vocals on the recapped are clear, forward and delightful. The original caps still sound good but it sounds like the vocals are hiding. New caps as all AK members have said make a huge difference.

I love testing things and I want to get a proper set up to record speakers and amps, then do proper comparisons. For instance, I want to do a comparison video with Dynaco A25s. My friend has a totally original set and I have a set with the updated seas tweeters. Then I want to take it a step further and recap my friend’s A25s and compare the tweeters and caps. Maybe just maybe, we can squeeze in the madisound A26s. My friend has proper mics and recorders to do musical recordings justice. Once this the quarantine is over we will get to work!

Nothing like digging down to the bottom of the matter.
If a pair of A40XL's come your way, do get them. If you like the A25's.
I won't get into the long list of box speakers I have that are better than the A25, most of which I like less than the A40XL's.

Congrats.
I commend you on having the patience to only do ONE speaker and then compare it to the unchanged speaker.
That is probably the best way to actually hear what if any changes the recap made.
