Thanks for the good words, Matt. I could use a late beer, too. If it's any consolation I choked the first time I priced out the Leben, too. But you only live once, right? But then I started pricing out the rest of the stuff here, and I have multiples of that, that didn't seem that much because I spent it a bit at a time. It adds up! If I had a wife or kids I wouldn't have all this stuff, so its a trade-off. Someday.

The turntables on the floor need to go. I'm going to step on them! I like those amp stands, though. The spikes are about 5" long!

I would have liked to hear the Shindo gear with its"magical sense of flow".

There is a spec for that, you know. It's probably one of the easiest to measure. You sit down and listen to your gear, look at your watch, then measure how long you sit in hours. And unlike THD, the resulting spec actually has something to do with how good the gear sounds :)

Mmmm must be a spec only on high-end new gear, never seen it on vintage. That must be why you like modern.

Nope. My Fisher 400c/Dynaco 70 excel at this spec, and so does my X-202b with the right speakers. I don't like modern gear, I like gear that sounds good- and some modern gear is in that category. :music: I'm running at least 1/2 vintage gear right now, probably more.

Just committed to the purchase of a used CS-300x, which is going to be run with the Cabasse Sloops and Harbeths. What I saved by not going with the CS-600 is going towards a Klyne preamp/phono-stage for my other system with the Quads, and some work on my Fisher SA-300. That will be two completed systems instead of one. Which should mean that I'm done for a long time. Of course, the person I am working with on the Klyne has already told me flat out that I'm an audio junkie and that I may as well just admit it. He would know, he's worse than me. And its true...on some level, I just really love trying out gear. The breaking point was reached and I just realize that I can't hold onto it all. That's fine. I still like playing with it, while keeping a core system that doesn't rotate out. Permanent stuff, and 'play' stuff.

The other good news is, I've actually been getting rid of some things!

Klyne...nice!!! I always wanted to try one!! Nice choice on that piece of kit.

Have you seen pictures of one of the Klyne phono stages? It's loaded with dip switches- must be over a dozen- to tailor the response to specific cartridges. That's what's actually holding up the audition- they're trying to track down a manual so that I can set up the phono stage correctly, as that is the main reason I want this preamp (plus I'm getting rid of my former main preamp).

I'm surprised you haven't tried one...I thought you'd have been through it all by now!

Thanks. We'll see...no word yet but they're looking for the manual. I guess I could just start flipping them and hope that one of the few thousand combinations was right for a Benz Glider.

It was a work of art inside. About the cleanest looking interior I've seen.

Congrats on the new pieces, John. Looking forward to reading your impressions once you have them.

Thanks Art. I'm going to be left with two very different systems, which is what I wanted the more I thought about it. That still leaves room for a LOT of stuff to leave here. And the Klyne, if I get it, replaces the Marantz SC-11s1 directly for no real loss monetarily. I bought it used and it has held its value, and I've gotten plenty of use from it. The Marantz Reference gear is really nice kit, extremely well built, too...it's just sonically a little too smoooooth for what I want with the Quads.

I'm starting out with the single chassis model from a while back, which is supposed to also be very good. If I like it, in a year or two I'll try to find the one you listed. It was recommended to me by a good friend who had one, and somebody else. Both described it as simply sounding 'right'.

When's the party dude?:beerchug::guitar::banana::banana::rockon:

There was a book on the market years ago titled ‘The Peter’s Principle’, the gist of this book was; people rise to their level of incompetence. In the audiophile world, I guess this would mean; people’s systems improve to their ability to listen/hear improvements.

There is no doubt in my mind that your new Leben system is lovely sounding. Unfortunately, from following your threads; I believe you have a discerning, well educated, sensitive, youthful, golden ear (nick named Harry) that can detect minute improvements in sound quality. In short; your ability to listen/hear has not fulfilled your ‘Peter’s Principle’.

Just an opinion, hope the musical ledge of contentment you’re sitting on right now last LONG term and congrats.
