You hang on to that one! There are more and more people realizing the sound quality you can get from a 700T. It'll blow a 500TX right into the weeds.:yes:

I had a 500TX too, never liked the look and the tuning. I gave it to my little sister. The 700T was my first piece of serious equipment-I traded in a Knightkit tube amp and a Bogen turntable for it and a Dual 1009F turntable. I will never let it go.
Guess I'm in the minority here. 
I've a 500TX, got from estate of original owner. Did a total Recap, some resistors, amp adjustments, and cleanup. Lettering is pretty worn on the face, but a ballpoint and a magnifier works for now, until I can find someone who does silkscreening that small. Pic on HTHMAN's thread on the 700.
It's like my SX-790. 45Watts that act like 60-70 or so. It's somewhat weak in the bass, BUT I guess Mr. Fisher voiced it more for Jazz, Classical and such rather than Rock. Bit brighter than my 400 but sounds very much like it.

From the '68 Fisher Handbook. 50WPC RMS at 0.8% harmonic distortion at 1KHz. 20-24000Hz power bandwidth, greater than 50 damping factor. 1.8 microvolt FM tuner sensitivity. Pretty good specs for an early SS receiver.

500TX came out in 69 to 71. Next series up I guess. Copying what my manual says for it. IHF Music Power @ 1kHz (8oHm) 190 Watts +- 1dB. RMS POWER (@1kHz) 65W/65W into 8oHms,0.5% h.d. Power Bandwidth IHF(8oHms) @ 1kHz: 8 to 35,000Hz, >30 damping factor, 1.7mV FM Usable Sensitivity. I think FISHER was OVERLY OPTIMISTIC with the specs.

My Fisher Gear
Here's my Fisher pieces. Obviously I'm a bigger fan of the older Fisher components, I like the 50's era stuff the best. The 80T might not look like much but it's a great little FM tuner, I listen to it in my workshop all the time hooked to one of my 80AZ amps and an EV Aristocrat. Both the FM80 and the 101R need servicing and don't yet function. Both 80AZ's work well though. I just got the 50-C preamplifier which needs a power cord and possible some caps and selenium rectifier replaced. That's what the previous owner thought (regarding the selenium rect) anyway. It's also missing its tubes but I've got a pair of 12AX7's and a 12AT7 (Electro Harmonix) for when it's time to "fire" it up. No pun intended.

What can you tell me about the 80-AZs?
I recently scored a pair of 100-AZs. They don't have the peak watts meter or the peak light, but are otherwise equivalent from my understanding. They were made the year I was born. I found schematics and manuals for the 80-AZs but not the 100s.

Thanks Don. I also heard that the 100-AZs were virtual equivalent to the 80-AZs, less the meter/light but like you, I also only have the 80-AZ schematic so it's still only hearsay coming from me. I can tell you that they sound very good and other than bringing them up slowly with a variac the first time I haven't done anything to them. The one is completely original and the other had some caps replaced by the previous owner. I'm a child of the 50's myself (1954) and when I got my first Fisher pieces (the 80-T & 80-AZ) I was sold.

Any love for the 440T? Dug one out the Goodwill bins last month for $8.00,and I wonder if its worth getting worked on.It was definitely the oldest Fisher solid state gear I ever saw

Roger. It was middle of the group for SS in 1967. decent performer. Pretty close to the 500C and 800C in specs. Do some basic clean up, DeOxit, and check it out. You might be surprised.

Nice Fisher stuff, check the volume pot may need cleaning I have a X101C replaced
the volume pot with a Alps much better, oh check resistors as well but the Fisher is
built so well and good cleaning is all it may need along with a changing of the
electrolytics.
