Interesting amp! Almost looks like a kit build, rather then mass produced. Does it have enough heatsink in there?
Since 2hr plugged in and as said before the Machine building up a big unexpected soundstage with plenty headroom feeding the little Sansui SP-300s speakers later I'll check with SP-100IEX and JBLs
the Amp is a gem not getting warm or hot at all

The terrific gear shown in the last several photos are perfect examples of what so many are unaware of that JVC/Victor produced.
 
Cut power cords are a hallmark of thrift-stores who toss a component in a dumpster and don't want to be liable for dumpster-divers taking equipment and then burning their house down because it's faulty. Beware of "untested, damaged power cord" components for sale.

There are, of course, other reasons for a damaged cord--and typically the thrift-store cuts the cord near the component, not at the plug-end.
 
Always confused of polarized or non-polarized cord to put back in? Any guide on that? Sorry this is beyond the topic here.
 
Does anyone have contact with JVC Graz? He has the service manual for the JP V1000 preamp which isn’t available online anywhere

Sometimes, even when the plug isn't polarized, the cord itself has a ridged edge. My Sony TC-K555 is like this -- and has a non-polarized plug. So is my Concept 2.5 -- not a polarized plug, but has the ridge on one side of the cord.

The internal cord may have color-coding. You might also be able to tell by opening your gear up and seeing what happens around the power supply, where the power cord enters the chassis.
 
Also: the manual for my Pioneer CLD-D504 has a safety notice for Canada: "To prevent electric shock, do not use this (polarized) plug with an extension cord, receptacle or other outlet unless the blades can be fully inserted to prevent blade exposure."

So information about if the original plug was polarized might be in the safety information in the user manual.

The plug on the power cord in the illustration on page 24, "Exploded View of Enclosure Assembly Parts and Parts List" does not look polarized. The safety instructions have instructions having to do with doing a current leakage test, so I suspect the original plug was not polarized, and the power supply was designed in such a way that polarization should not be an issue.

Picked up this VL-5 last month. Cosmetically pretty clean, looks as though it sat for decades. Belt turned to complete goo, motor and spindle bearings were dry as a bone. Disassembled just about everything, thoroughly cleaned and relubed, then installed a belt. Came with an AT13 cart in stylus, just had a lot of oxidation on the connections I cleaned. Runs at pretty accurate speed and sounds good. Not JVC's greatest offering, but I fell in love with it's look.

Finally got the M-L10s from my buddy in NJ. One of them works flawlessly after calibrating DC offset and bias. The other has distortion in both channels. I found the issue and it appears to be the good old death glue which has corroded the legs of a few transistors, and even caused a diode to completely shatter from the inside out. Nasty stuff! Eager to start working on equipment again, and these two gems will be some of the first to get proper attention. Pics attached.
