Let's talk about Artificial Intelligence. Scared yet?

It's so funny (and sad) to see/read so many people referring to "freedom" infringements/encroachments, only to circle round to restricting "it" for others because they disagree with or are morally opposed to, a particular manifestation of said freedom....signs and wonders...

You don't have kids but you want to blame fathers for not doing enough in the last 50 years. What do you think fathers should do?

From what I have seen with my kids is that the educational system has improved since I was in it 30 years ago. Kids are taught emotional intelligence, no more bullying allowed, they are taught to be kind to those that are different and they actually try to help kids from troubled homes
Much better than it was but if course there is room for improvement.

You are basing your positive body image from your limited experience watching FB. It's actually been about people being happy with their bodies no matter the shape and size.

The kids aren't dumber either. That's a common misconception.

Obesity is a problem for some but their are also young people who are into being fit and healthy.

Your analysis is generally filled with broad declarations they don't reflect reality.
My data is very different than yours.

For example: Are just some kids obese?

QUOTE: Childhood obesity is a serious problem in the United States, putting children and adolescents at risk for poor health. Obesity prevalence among children and adolescents is still too high.
For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years in 2017-20201:

The prevalence of obesity was 19.7% and affected about 14.7 million children and adolescents.
  • Obesity prevalence was 12.7% among 2- to 5-year-olds, 20.7% among 6- to 11-year-olds, and 22.2% among 12- to 19-year-olds. Childhood obesity is also more common among certain populations.
  • Obesity prevalence was 26.2% among Hispanic children, 24.8% among non-Hispanic Black children, 16.6% among non-Hispanic White children, and 9.0% among non-Hispanic Asian children.
  • Obesity-related conditions include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, breathing problems such as asthma and sleep apnea, and joint problems.

Apparently What I do for my kids isn't enough for @DesertRatt .
We get to be the scapegoats for his perceived issues.

I don't know who you are or what you do. You're just an avatar on a website, as I am to you. My critique of fathers is general, and I am sure every other person here understood that.

They are not my PERCEIVED issues. What I posted about Facebook and Instagram is real, and the only people who don't accept it as real are people who simply have not performed their own due diligence. I can't help it if people want to stick their heads in the sand and pretend the weather is fine.

@GChief Here's your super-efficient food system at work, Chief.
----------------------------------
Washington D.C. 11 November 2022 (PAHO/WHO) – Growing rates of obesity, poor diets, and lack of physical activity, among other factors, have contributed to a more than three-fold increase in the number of adults living with diabetes in the Americas in the past 30 years according to a new report by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The PAHO Panorama of Diabetes in the Americas, released in the run up to World Diabetes Day (November 14) calls on countries to improve early diagnosis, increase access to quality care for diabetes control, and develop strategies to promote healthy lifestyles and nutrition.

At least 62 million people live with diabetes in the Americas, a number which is expected to be much higher given that around 40% of those with the disease are unaware they have the condition. If current trends continue, the number of people with diabetes in the region is projected to reach 109 million by 2040.

I have been eating fresh and clean for over 15yrs. 58 on zero drugs and life is good.

Your preaching to the choir when it comes to our food supply.

Presumably, you consider an AI machine to qualify as a member of the set "others."
I keep distinctions among human beings, legal fictions, and machines.

Hi DesertRatt,

OK, I'll absolutely agree with you that society in general is getting more obese, but what I can't see is the correlation between people's bad lifestyle choices and AI? Or am I to believe all of the unhealthy people are somehow being "brainwashed" by AI into liking a big greasy triple Big Mac over a salad? At what point does personal responsibility and accountability come into play? Please know that I'm not needling you here, I just seriously don't see the connection between AI and the very real health problem you have posted the proof of in post #3,204.

I see that information as 80% who aren't obese.

Will AI be used to stop children from being exploited by predators

ChatGPT
Yes, AI technologies are being developed and utilized to enhance efforts in preventing child exploitation and online predators. These tools often involve image and video analysis, content monitoring, and other techniques to identify and intervene in such activities. However, it's important to note that AI is just one component of a comprehensive approach that includes legal measures, education, and cooperation among various stakeholders.
Could it also be used by predators to attack children

ChatGPT
Unfortunately, there is a potential risk that malicious individuals may misuse AI tools for harmful purposes, including targeting children. It emphasizes the importance of responsible development, deployment, and regulation of AI technologies to mitigate such risks. Balancing technological advancements with ethical considerations and strong safeguards is crucial to prevent the misuse of AI in ways that could harm individuals, especially children.

People are working on this issue.

As you can see from the response from Chatgpt. AI will be used to help and can also be used maliciously.

To say that fathers or anyone else is just turning a blind eye to abuse and predators is wrong.

Personal Responsibility (PR) is about personal virtue and values and has no "global" sort of societal effect. The tool for managing conditions in society is the law.
Those who like to use PR as advice on how to improve society or solve a problem are mistaken in the mechanics of mass society and culture. PR doesn't scale up to nations with 300M people.

I am sure everyone remembers the "Just Say No to Drugs" campaign. That was a PR strategy: Have EVERYONE exercise PR, and the problem will go away. Only it doesn't. Personal virtues aren't infectious like a virus. Only policy and law can have any chance of reversing a course.

AI is involved because AI is the most powerful communication platform we have. It is always working on a mass level against the population simply to make money for a few people. The sellers of the worst ideas always outgun the sellers of the best ideas. See TV advertising. As we digitize and stream individual TV content, so will the targeted ads follow.

AI and food production. There is no mystery to be solved regarding what food is healthful to eat and what food is not. The good is perfectly well understood. So, how will AI be used in food production? Obviously to help the manufacturer improve profits. The way you do that is to eliminate expensive healthful components and substitute cheaper components with no health benefit. They have been doing this for years before AI. Companies like Frito-lay have food scientists finding ways to combine cheap chemicals with flour to make very tasty, very addictive junk food. With AI, they will multiply that effort a thousandfold. They will find cheaper chemicals quicker and make more brands of garbage faster. They own the shelf space at the grocery store, so it will be on tap, and naturally, people will buy it.

Conclusion: The epidemic of obesity and diabetes continues to grow and will be aided in growth by AI.

This guy Chamath Palihapitiya is a father of FIVE children and was a key figure and innovator in building out Facebook technology for customizing feeds. You know, the same technology that feeds REELS today.

There are tens of thousands of other fathers who were directly involved in this technology. They knew what they were doing. The knew what they were creating and how it was being deployed. This is not a one-off problem. Plenty of fathers working for the huge polluters like GM, 3M, Texaco, Chevron, DOW also knew what they were doing to hurt children. It's a problem of the technocracy that seemingly can't be solved with traditional moral underpinnings.
