List of AK'ers with a Technics SL1200/SL1210

Add me to the list! I have owned a SL1200mk2 in black for about a month now and am very happy with it. I currently have an Ortofon 2M Bronze cartridge installed which suits just fine. This unit looks to be either 1993 or 2003 vintage (according to the S/N) and has been fully refurbished and brought to factory specs. The only change was the replacement of the RCA and ground with new cables and internal grounding.

I have two SL-1210 Mk2s (one stock, one modded) and the original SL-1200.
Hi,
I've got sl1210mk2 for a month now. You can add me to the list.
My question is: is there anyone who compared the following mods with the original transformer gone:
1. external more powerful transformer (say 75VA or more) feeding 30V AC to the main board PS;
2. external more powerful transformer with more powerful PS and a 3-5A regulator feeding 21V DC to the main board bypassing the original regulator (regulator's main transistor disconnected);
Any audible differences between these two mods?
I got all the parts to do any of these and oroginally intended to do the first one only but having read a few articles in HiFi World decided to go for the second option as apparently the original Technics regulator is not good enough. I do not see anything wrong with this regulator only the oroginal PS may not be powerfull enough. But accessing the main board is a bit complicated hence the second mod seems to be a better choice but the first one is even simpler.
So I ask again this:
has anyone found any audible difference between these two mods???

I purchased the KAB outboard PS and strobe disabler. I'm not sure how the KAB unit compares to the specs you mention but KAB has info on the site re the specs if that helps. Kevin also gives helpful info for anyone interested in a DIY unit. I'm quite pleased with the performance of the KAB PS and strobe disabler.

I was thinking about getting from them modified/rewired arm. mk5 has good ofc wiring but mk2 not. I wonder if that would make audible difference?

SL-1200Mk2 Mods
The KAB power supply and strobe disabler were a noticable leap forward and it made the sound cleaner than before. The tonearm rewire and phono cable upgrade will also be an improvement. Check the KAB site for info.
2 - 1200 Mk2 (1 is KAB'd substantially the other is a project table. Replaced transformer and adjusted tonearm bearing play so far.)

Last March I checked CL early one Saturday morning, saw a 1200mk2, called the number, the seller was 1/2 mile up the street, I went right up there, gave the table a quick audition, paid the man, brought it home, gave the 97xe a new stylus, and let it spin > damned if I can remember what I played!
My original SL-1200 mk1 died when the transformer went belly up:tears:
BUT....I have a Black SL-1210 coming so that makes it all right!
Did you check into replacing the trannie on the MK1? I bought a non-running MK2 off eBay hoping it was a fuse; turned out to be a transformer. I picked up a replacement off the 'Bay and had her up and running in no time and I'm no electronic technician. Perhaps a MK2 transformer will work?
