Was just playing my Pioneer SX 700-T.

Not sure if this is cap coupled amp, but sounds suspiciously like some late 60's early 70's Sansui receivers I've owned....like the 4000.

Always a good idea to turn off the speakers when powering these up and down.

This is a very good sounding vintage receiver.

Having the speakers on while powering my Sansui 5000a produces a very noticeable thump like sound on my more efficient speakers. Having the speakers off during power up results in a much nastier sound when I then switch to the speakers: bad juju in my opinion.
As the 5000a has provisions for three sets of speakers I put a pair of cheap inefficient small speakers on one of the selections reserved for power up with minimal sacrifice. No thumps or nasty noise since.

Good solution. I used to get that "thump" on my 4000.

That's how I learned to turn the speaker selector to off. I never had any nastier sounds that you mentioned though.

I own 4 Sansui’s - 2 receivers and 2 integrateds. All cap-coupled. Love em all, but the AU-222 is my fav.

I'm not certain but my experience seems to indicate speaker/driver characteristics may play a part in the startup noise.

Instead of speakers, try a 100 ohm resistor in the "selections reserved for power up with minimal sacrifice "
Doesn't have to be high wattage, unless you like to turn it up with no sound...

Add to your cap coupled list : Kenwood KR 7070. very rare receiver 65 watts. Very nice !

Three receivers and one integrated amp have been added, and one integrated amp was deleted (the Akai AA-5500 was determined not to be cap coupled). I appreciate the interest shown in the list and the topic and will update the list again periodically if more information is found.

I know this thread is mainly focused on two-channel, but just for the sake of reference, the quad Lafayette LR-220 is AC coupled, at a whopping four watts per. One is on my bench at the moment.

One thing, at some stage the Sansui 7000 receiver has had its output watts per channel changed from 70 to 35, 70 watts is the correct value.

KLH Model Twenty and Twenty Four are cap coupled if you count them as receivers, the Harman/Kardon SC3 would be as well. I mean they’re kinda like receivers, they have a built in tuner and an amp and all.

Thanks for the information and the suggestion. I know some of them are hifi quality, but I think the all-in-one "music center" systems like the KLH units you mentioned are beyond the scope of the list. I'll note that as another exclusion when I update the list.
