Looking for some bass

This will surprise you, sure did me. Friend gave me a pair of Fisher STV-866 speakers. 10" air suspension woofers, three way, pretty thin particle board, pretty cheap speakers I'd guess. But they do have a really nice overall sound and the bass is surprising, deep and smooth. Sound output is a good bit higher than my Sansui SP 1700s that I use for front channels and quite a bit more bass.
 
Snells have impressive low end, at least the EIII’s I had did. If your looking for slamming hard hitting bass in your face then you can’t go wrong with Vegas.

Inexpensive bass is the major strength of original large Advents. Give them some power and they go pretty deep. Not NHT 3.3 or 2.5 deep, but respectable in the 30 htz range. You can pick them up for couch change compared to NHT towers.

NHT 3.3's were the best speakers I ever bought. Wish I still had them. They were power hungry beasties though.

The smaller advent was good for this as well. One of my favorite speakers of all time. Really polk monitor 7s or 10s would do the job.

So no one has ever used NHT 3.3's at a party? How could you possibly know that?
 
Polk Audio has some nice floor standing speakers/towers that can dig pretty low also. Reasonably price, too. www.polkaudio.com

Bic America has some nice floor standers for reasonable cost, too. Lots of reviews of Bic speakers on Amazon... give them a read. www.bicamerica.com

Any speaker can be used for a party. However, most are not known as party speakers are as most CV's.:cool:

FWIW: The last CV's I heard were from the CLS series. They IMO sound nothing like traditional CV's and are definitely not party speakers.

I knew what you meant, but just because something is "known" doesn't make it true. Did you know that once it was "known" that tomatoes were poison?
This forum has plenty of appreciative posts from people that actually gave them a listen with decent equipment, not some ten to twenty watt stereo cranked wide open with the bass as high as it will go.
Most of the comments start "with their reputation I didn't expect"

Sure not everyone wants clear sparkling highs that aren't sharp or brittle, defined bass that throbs in your chest, and vocals that sound like they are sitting just feet in front of you, but if they do, CV's aren't a bad choice.

They do a hell of a job of making individual instruments appear tangible.
