Looking for some bass

For low bass extension try the Fisher XP10. You will need 80 plus watts minimum and a tweeter swap of you taste. The crossover is fine.
If you're down on power then try the Wharfedale W70D. Also with a tweeter swap. The crossover is fine.

I would argue that my Rectilinear IIIs seem to have more low bass extension than my W70Ds. They do need more power to really shine though. I have the W70Ds hooked up to a Pilot 654 and concur that they work well with "just" 7591s. W90D should be even better. I did change the tweeters for Morels as the original purple domes fell apart and cracked before I got them.

I would say the crossovers are fine... IF RECAPPED... pretty sure both the Wharfedales and Rectilinears used those miserable black with red end caps capacitors so they're about 10 years at least overdue for replacement and I at least could hear the diff. (in the Rects at least, I never listened to the Wharfedales as I got them as a project.)

Infinity RS1.5. Ridiculous bass for a smaller monitor style speaker, and can usually be found for not much money.

Two that I remember for deep bass are Carver Amazing Platinums and Ohm Walsh 5s. Klipsch Chorus have nice low end as well.

Oddly, I noticed an improvement going from 65WPC (HK 770) to 100 WPC (Acurus DIA-100 Mk2) - or maybe the HK is just weak on bass, or the Acurus has a stouter PS? Dunno.

I don't know if the W90Ds would actually have better bass extension than the W70Ds. But I would guess that they might, as the one woofer is different than the ones used in the smaller Wharfies.

I've not had to much power, 125 would be nice. The Rec's are ok at 50 for me, better with the 80 watt JVC.
But I've not pushed it. Don't want to buy any parts.
I don't push any of this old stuff to the rating. Except the JVC and the 98 db sensitive and easy to get parts for Kenwood KL777A's.
But not often or for long because it just to loud. And the drums hit to hard.

I have a vinyl recording of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, specifically the Great Gate of Kiev. That track has some awesome bass from a monster bass drum, as played thru my Rectilinear IIIs. These are not bass-heavy speakers, but when deep bass needs to be spoken, they speak loudly and clearly. From my frequency generator, I can clearly hear strong sound almost down to 30Hz, depending on where I am in the room, fortunately at my listening couch. I'm not driving at ear-splitting levels, but close to live audience levels. I'llbe interested to hear how my AR3a's do in comparison when I get them playable.

Yes, my 4b's do very well in my bedroom at visceral, palpable, clean and fast bass. Same generation as yours.
My IIbs do a pretty good job in the living room, (same generation) but of course, there they're augmented by JL and M&K subs. It's a big room and just eats bass.

Which generation are you talking about? Emit equipped or after? Unfortunately Infinity has re-used the 'rs' moniker a whole slew of times, technically including the kappa series

bass is great at 35 hz. i use my ears and not specs, Most cant tell where 20 hz is anyway unless distortion happens. and it gets sloppy there anyway with vintage speakers. I hate sloppy vintage bass. I owned the technics and they were a great alternative to CV as the op asked.

in over 70 posts no one has mentioned JBL?

points to consider
1. BIGGEST JBL you find
2. lift with one hand? NO ----needs two people to lift - then OK!
3. crap cabinet? ( do not worry - perfect or crap does NOT affect BASS)
4. blown woofers, surrounds, crossovers
(easy fixes for first time newbies - just ask any flipper)
5. have pickup truck? no problem see #3
6. near a big city? go to thrift shops in wealthier/older neighborhoods.

then make sure you have amps to match, no less than 500w per channel,
nine inch nails, death metal, opening track to Top Gun. and turn the treble
down to avoid permanent tinnitus, but bass is good for rattling fillings,
aortic screening, and then

If Bass is your only criteria get a subwoofer. OTOH if your system seems to lack bass maybe its not the speakers, what are you driving them with?

I still have my original Realistic Mach 1's (4024 bought in 1977) in mint condition. Never replaced anything and they still "ROCK". Plenty of BASS! I use them for Music and Watching Movies and NASCAR. They still pound the house when I want them to. In my opinion, they are the best speakers made for home, even though they were made from Radio Shack. I have them placed on their side above my Wall unit I made back in 1980. No sign of wear on the Walnut case.

I have Mach 1's from 76 and although I just recently got them and not in the greatest shape physically they still sound awesome in fact way better then my 82 ones and your right no matter what others say,they are the best for my home!120 Watts x 2 keep them and I happy

Well,without you giving us some sorta idea what you can typically spend this process amounts to pure guesswork.
We could be wasting your time (and ours) recommending speakers that you'll never actually find in your price range.

Anyhow,you want CV bass w/o them actually being CV speakers,then look into some JBL CF series speakers (CF-80/100/120/150).
Pretty much JBL's misguided attempt to make a straight-up CV knock-off to try and steal some diehard CV customers.

Most diehard JBL fans hate 'em w/a passion,so they GOTTA sound a lot like CV's do,LOL.

Like somebody mentioned earlier; large older sound dynamics with 15" woofers are smoother than Cerwin Vegas and will get down into the mid to upper 20 Hz range and don't need much wattage to do it.

I used Klipsch Cornwalls for a while and they produce very impressive bass if you don't mind horn midranges.

Interesting thread .. nobody is mentioning quality of the bass notes produced ..they can all thump ..
Fastest, most tuneful bass speaker that I ever owned was a Fried IMF transmission line ..
And I would second the JBL recommendation .. get the 4-ways, feed em power, and then duck .. they're infamous for rattling windows and pissing off the neighbors ..
