Mac 1700 or Mac 4100 ? What would you do?

Or

Mac 4100 stored for 10 years in ? Condition.
With box and manual. For $800

I have a Mac guy that can bring the 4100 up to spec.

How would you burn the $800?

I understand your recommendation. I completely trust my tech. I really don’t like shipping any piece, although I’m sure your recommendations is worth it.

MAC4100 doesn't have the all-glass faceplate therefore far less likely to incur shipping damage - especially when shipped in a proper shipping carton from Audio Classics.

I'm sure the tech is able but my view that A/C probably has far more experience and intimately familiar with the MAC which greatly increases the chances of the service work being done right the first time. As you're in CO, you might also want to consider Absolute Sound Labs in MN which has also has favorable reviews in servicing vintage Mac. But still get the carton first.

I like the 4100 too. It's a great all in one package with more modern controls.

The 4100 has a vinyl top. Some of the radius and corners look even more unnatural than usual. It's no better sounding than a similarly powered Marantz receiver, IMO.
