Mach One 4024, 4024A, 4029 Information and Upgrades!

No tabs to line up midrange dome

Wow, this thread has really grown! A lot of very worthwhile information! After spending a great deal of time browsing the pages, I came across the part mentioning the foam for the midrange could rot.. As curious as I am I decided to check m 4024A's and, sure enough, they definitely need replacing... This right here explains why they sounded so harsh to me (is why I tried replacing the capacitors in the first place to no avail). Good good good. I'll try and pick up some replacement material for it at some point (as lazy as I am who knows when that that time will come around) >.>

Also, I popped off the plastic part holding on the dome and voice coil from the magnet, and there are no notches or any kind of markers to line it back up again properly, as seen in the other pictures posted, so I'll have to be careful to line up the voice coil again A thousand Thank You's go out to Videolady for contributing to this thread with the bountiful amounts of information published here. :thmbsp:

Could you please take a photo of the magnet and the back side of the dome. I would like to see the top of the magnet without the voice coil and dome on it. And a picture of the back side of the dome assembly that goes into the magnet.
Thank you in advance if you can do this.

One speaker is done and tested...sounds real good!I mean so good that its not even the same speaker anymore.Test song is Buddy Guy's Black Night.
Powered by the ESP Project 101 Class A power amp run through a Musical Fidelity DAC and using a Sansui 9090 preamp. The 101 is rated at 180w per channel.
The other will have to wait to tomorrow.Darn.
Had to get tools and foam and stuff.

Yes, that's the pics I was looking for. Thank You. Little shocked they don't have alignment pins.

Yay more pictures. Hope this is what you were looking for.. Also, as it turns out, the plastic piece that holds the dome/voice coil fits snuggly into the horn part.. so I really don't need to worry about realigning it. :)

I have a pair of NOS Realistic 1301A 15" woofers. Does anyone know if they would make suitable replacements for the Mach 1"s? I don't have a pair of Mach 1's, but using these to resurrect a pair of Mach's or build a set of clones could be an interesting project. I do have the T/S specs for it somewhere. I'll dig 'em out and post them.

Something I noticed in the pics showing the insides of the cabinets. The inside seams look a little light on glue. This might not be the case, but I have a pair of Infinity Sterling series speakers to which I applied a liberal amount of wood glue to the inside seams. This had the effect of making the cabs feel alot more solid. Maybe somebody could give this a try and see if it helps their Mach 1's.

After looking at frequency charts for vocals, instruments, etc. I was good reason to boost the range of the woofer, but was hesitant due to concern of overdriving it. Sounds like even my 4024a could deal with it.

For the most part they should work in the Mach 1s. The specs are pretty close, but it would be a try and see as the upper frequency range is 800hz higher than the Mach driver, on paper. I'll bet it's real close!:scratch2:

O.K. the second speaker is done and I have listened to Bill Evans for jazz piano,Buddy Guy for blues guitar and Paul Simon's Graceland for some rocking tunes and I gotta say the Mach 1's are sounding real good.I don't have a ton of knowledge to know how or what to compare these to but compared to how they did sound these are WFB...by far.
What is the 2nd tier about? Tweeter tweek? and then a 3rd tier too?
Of course I don't have the crossover quite right though.I have a 22uF and a 10uF in there only because I don't have a 14uF and an 8.2 on hand.I'll include them in the next order. And hey...I saved a ton on the inductor too by unspooling 52 turns, right?
videolady201 many thanks to you for your effort on these old boys.

Can't believe the odds...

Newbie here who has a love of audiophile quality sound... just went to a wedding this past weekend and right across the street I see a pair of speakers at a garage sale so of course I wander over to take a look. It's a pair of Mach Ones for $20 so I grabbed them and when I got home found that the woofers are torn so I will need to replace them... then I find this site and the whole refurb thread. Like a sign from above... :thmbsp:

The 2nd level will be full 3rd order crossovers and upgrades to the Woofer & Tweeter. The 3rd level will be, well... See the attached image. More details to come later!:thmbsp:
