Mach One 4024, 4024A, 4029 Information and Upgrades!

So videolady, not to rush you, but I'm really looking forward to your 4024a mods.......

You can count me in for a tier two upgrade. Three may be a little beyond me, but I'd bet that not only looks awesome, but would sound that way too. Are you planning a full four way crossover?

Tier 3

Yes, Sub, Mid Bass, Midrange & Tweeter all at 8th order, -48db per octave!

8th order on a passive?? You're only putting in two 15"'ers in there to make room for the crossover, aren't you???? :D

I don't even think that I can comprehend how an 8th order looks on paper, never mind a high pass, two band passes and a low pass.....what a part count!

It's just 64 components if you include the R constant that's in all L and Cs. You will see the circuit when I am finished! However, some of them are huge, 8mh flat ribbon inductors in 10ga foil, about 8" x 2" and about 12lbs.

yowsers! probably cheaper and easier to go active (do they make 4 ways?) [cheaper and easier doesn't mean as much fun!!]

PS - How many watts do you figure will be burnt up going through that crossover?

Very little, the inductors have DCRs down in the .05 ohms and less range. That's the reason for the large gauge. Also, active is driven into a fixed load, the passive drives a reactive load and you can do more voltage shaping with the reactive load!

Should not be one. 1st order 90 degrees, 2nd 180, 3rd 270, 4th 360 (back to zero), add another 4th, another 360(back to zero)! The other issues are the design.. What values, and where??? It is very hard to get in the ball park, but gets much better to work with once your in the park. You can also reach the end results 100 different ways and each yielding just a little different results, with a different trade-off. Which one do you take or settle on??

Based on your posts here, I'm guessing that you are going to look through at least 60 of them and find the one that you like best, and then tell us all why! (and for dorks like me, why you didn't pick some of the other ones :thmbsp:)

Mach 1 Series II, 8th Order

First off, I think you guys are great!:thmbsp: I have in my past designs been through more them 1600 iterations before finding the one that I really liked the impedance, phase and SPL and the Sound. Months and months of listening. The measurements are the first thing and they have to be attainted, then the listening. You can have what looks like the same SPL and because of phase or something in the drivers, it just don't have the magic, so you go back and start over. Just for grins, see the attachment. It's an 8th order on the level 3 I am working on!:scratch2:

I just acquired a nice pair of 4024A's. Can I implement any of the mods outlined for the 4029's to make these puppy's sound better. So far, they are not what I was expecting based on what I've read on AK.:headscrat

Yes, you can check the midrange foam. I'm sure it is gummy and bad. You would have a good start by replacing it and putting the felt dampers under the dome, this will help a lot. You can also open up the cabinet between the woofer and midrange area to increase the overall cabinet volume. :thmbsp:
