Thanks Pete but this one connects with R764. So I remember yellow dot as j706. Also the the left and right pins wires didn't cross over so blue glue marke was on the nut and STV , put it back correspondingly and yellow dot will be j706. I remember it being that way. Just wanted to confirm with you guys the professionals.
Hi Pete. Here is the update. StV put back. Removed one leg of r701 off board and plugged in through DBT. Dc voltage on j707 and chassis now stabilized and able to adjust to 0v.
yes the problem is most likely something in the PE01 board
everything with an odd number is the bad channel
you could try changing c701 first to rule that out .
Cool let me get stuck in there. I bought all the caps and resistors for PE01 to have on hand just couldn't get the transistors. Hopefully transistor all check out. They did test fine on the board when I checked the other day. So C701 is where I'll start.
Hi Guys. Spent some time yesterday going through PE01 board so far as to test every component on and off the board for the bad side only that is. Everything checked out fine on DVM even the resistors that were measuring incorrectly on the board measured correctly when taken off. Whilst in there checked out PF01 board as well and everything testing good as well.
Pete i didn't change C701 as it tested fine. Do you think i should have as the problem is still there with the fluctuating readings on DVM.
transistors on pe01 board . you could freeze spray on each one whilst monitoring dc offset .alternatively warm each one with adjustable heat gun or hair dryer
I'm going to go with hairdryer for today till I can get the freeze spray. Only place here that has it is a 2 hour drive from me. Just to check. Can I use the hairdryer whilst the unit is switched on and reading a DC voltage on DVM to monitor if it stabilizes?
If this will be your only repair/restoration and you'll never need freeze spray again you might just try using an upside down can of compressed air (keyboard duster, etc). It gets cold quick and could save you a trip.
Thanks Mburas. I will try get it as i seem to enjoy the satisfaction out of getting something going again. Have been a collector of vintage audio for ages but always depended on other people to bring them back if needed. But the quality of workmanship and spares used always remained a question at the back of my mind. It actually feels complete by doing it myself, which ofcourse would never be possible without the kind gentlemen and their expertise on this forum
Hi Guys. Quick update. Tried the hairdryer and the reading on DVM just got more eratic with reading range going higher to about 160mv. Just out of curiosity could CE01 be the cause of the problem as I noticed something and not sure if the hairdryer was the cause or it was there waiting to happen
I noticed some substance like moisture blowing around on the board whilst applying hairdryer. Started to come from between CE01 and CE02 but I can't seem to find any noticeable damage on these caps. This unit has never been exposed to moisture and I am sure the electronic spray i used on Sunday would have dried up almost immediately. Could this substance have come from CE01 (leaking capacitor) like i originally experienced with the main caps and be the route of the dc offset eratic readings? Sorry in advance if it is a stupid question
Ok. When I bought spares last week, they gave me caps 224j63. Would these be fine to use? Also I don't see a + and - marking so can they go in either way?
Hey Pete. Don't you sleep bud. You always there to respond within minutes. I thought I'll only see a response in the morning. Really appreciate you for that buddy
Cool. Gonna try tomorrow. Hopefully it fixes the problem. I'm actually feeling disappointed in my self as to why I can't get this right when I have the help of you guys on hand literally spoon feeding me.
