I just bought my first scope! I'm stoked!

I pick it up tomorrow. Will post pics once I have it.

Anybody know if it is possible to convert the green scope of a 150 to blue? I read that some of the later model 150's had a blue scope which was achieved by added some blue gel filter (lens) in front of the glass. Is it possible to just buy the gel to modify the color?

Also, how do the scope inputs work on the tuner? Can I just plug in my main out from my amp to these inputs so that the scope also works with the output from my amp?

Scope inputs I believe are for use with a separate quad amp otherwise you don't use them. You want blue? You'll have to buy a blue transparency, cut it to shape and remove the faceplate to install Iirc.

150

There is a separate quad output and you may be right about the scope inputs, but I hooked up my 2235B tape out to the scope inputs and the scope works with the output of my 2235B. You just have to make sure the 2 Ch - Ext button is pushed in. It works great, and the scope lights up different depending on which input I'm using on my 2235b.

Does anyone know if there is supposed to be any static sound between stations on the 150? It's very different from the tuner on my 2235B as there is no static and seems like it doesn't pick up as many stations. Do I just need a better (dipole) antennae? Right now I'm just using some speaker wire plugged into the FM connections in the back.

Also BK, any idea where to buy a blue transparency?

Cool, I forgot the 150 had the 2 channel in, only remembered the 4 ch button at 6:37am lol. Now you can see how the fm separation looks when you run the scope from a receiver.

Antenna att in or out? May need a cleaning, my 150 had major static, everything is under covers on those 150's and years of non cleaning doesn't help.

There is a switch on the back (upper left, IIRC) used to Attenuate (lower or lessen) the signal received from a close, or very strong FM station. Unless you switch the 'Attenuator switch to 'IN' (on) the very high level signal will overload the tuner and cause distortion (non-tech explanation).
On the Attenuator switch, 'OUT' means OFF. For most FM stations the switch should be in the 'OUT' possition.

Congrats on your 150.

Check your muting button for the static between stations. Push it in and out several times. On a couple of my tuners there is a "muting threshold" adjustment on the back. Use a flat bladed screwdriver and try adjusting it.

A better antenna will help. The folded dipole is fine. How do you have the "speaker wire for antenna" hooked up now? If it's to one of the 300 ohm taps, try the other one. Also, what does the scope look like in the multipath mode? Should be a thin horizontal horizontal line, the higher the better.

Have fun. Its a great tuner.

I tried to change my 150's green scope to blue by using a blue gel obtained from the Theatre Dept where I work. That change only made the green darker. I ended up buying a lesser condition 150 then swapped the scopes and sold off the green scope version. I was told by a friend that did the work that the "blue scope" is actually achieved by a white scope made blue by a blue gel in front of the glass. Either way they're great tuners.

There is a 'MUTING LEVEL', just to the right of the AM amtenna. You adjust a single screw from 'MIN' to 'MAX'.

Might I suggest... as you come to know more about Marantz and its various scoped Tuners/Receivers you will question your current desire to change the scope display, IMHO.
Personally, I'd leave the scope color alone.

I have the speaker wire hooked up to both taps on the back.

The scope looks like this when in multipath mode: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MARANTZ-MOD...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I'll check and see if there is a muting threshold on the back.

I looked at the picture in the link. If yours looks like that, it's not good.

Until you can get a basic folded dipole hooked up to the 300 ohm screws, try hooking your speaker wire up NOT to both taps but to one of the 300 ohm screws then try the other but ONLY 1 tap at a time. Try the wire straight up like a car antenna but also sideways. See if the "multipath" trace improves and subsequent sound.

The "multipath' trace should be a very thin horizontal line near the top but at least more than half way up to the top.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by the above quote. If you are at all unsure, you might want to download the owners manual, just to make sure you're hooked up correctly. PDF files are FREE to download on AK.:thmbsp:
