Marantz 2245 and Ohm speakers

Not to revive that old "vintage wattage -vs- modern wattage" debate, but I've applied a 120 watt Denon CI receiver and 150 (at 8 ohms) Emotiva amp to a pair of Model F's and it just isn't enough. Both will get them up to the limits of my ears in a 15 X 25 room, but I have to crank everything up 10 notches higher than the other speakers in the room need.
Although I don't have a direct comparison, I did run a 2245 through the same speakers (ESS Rock Monitors) that I've pumped with both of the aforementioned receivers/amps and there was quite a difference.
You may have to buck up for one of those high wattage Crown pro amps as your 2245 does have a preamplified output.

Humorous quote attributed to then President John Strohbeen: "The early F's had functionality issues - they needed 300 watts to get them going and 301 to blow them up."
I heard the F's in a local dealers shop in the 1977 when bought my C2. Believe John is still Pres.
here are the specs and they are rated 100-200 watt 4ohm speakers, the 2245 is rated 45 watts at both 4 & 8 ohm.

Fs will not run well on a 2245. Not by a long shot. However, the quote attributed to Strohbeen is wildly incorrect as well. Those that think they need 300+ watts probably have voice coils that are out of alignment, requiring far more power than normal.
My Fs run best on class D power. I've run them successfully with as little as 50 watts and as much as 550 watts with not much difference. The best match was with 120 wpc, but that could just be synergy with the amp. It's the class D that seems to make the difference. They need a lot of damping to control the motion of that big, heavy woofer. They also need a lot of current. Class D amps tend to have both. Far more than even monster vintage receivers.
A stout modern class A/B amp of moderate power like my Parasound 2125 (150 wpc) works well too. But again, it has damping and current. Some will say they need at least 300 wpc of big vintage iron like a Phase Linear 700 or something, but I just don't find that to be the case.

I'll second Porkloin's suggestion of buying a Crown XLS 1502 for a couple hundred bucks and hooking it up to the preouts of your 2245 and run the 2245 as a preamp. You'll keep the looks and knobs of the 2245 but you'll get far better performance from the Crown amp than you would the amp section of the Marantz. You'll also be able to set the Crown to run a high pass filter at 35 hz, which will keep the ultra low notes from getting to the irreplaceable woofer and crumpling it like a beer can.
Just go easy with the volume and tone knobs. The Crown provides massive power, but the Fs weren't designed to get loud or play super bass heavy music.

Update: I was giving the amp that was paired with the Ohm F’s by their original owner’s daughter. It’s a SAE 2500, which works great. The F’s not so much. They are currently being restored by Bill at Millersound in PA. In the meantime I acquired a pair of Ohm 3xO’s which are also being restored. I’ll have some experimentation to do once these all come back. Looking at a Dynaco ST-70 to put into the mix too.
