Howdy, folks! First post on this board from this Marantz newbie. Does anyone know at what point (year or serial number) did the production of model 2270 move from Sun Valley, CA to Japan? Thanks!

As far as I know, the 2270 was never made in the USA.

According to that site, the production run was from 1971 to 1975 and was manufactured in the USA (Sun Valley) "and later in Japan".

I have 2 very early ones (within the first 1000 made). On the plaque with the serial # they both say Sun Valley right under Marantz "and" at the very bottom right in small letters it says "made in Japan". I'm going to bet the ranch that no 2270 was ever built in the USA. Later models went on the say "designed in the USA, built in Japan".

I don't think any 2270 were US made. I think there are few internet rumors.... Either way, you have to love 2270....mine is an earlier one.

The pots, switches and tuner wheel just have a silky feel.

It is interesting that there is info out there that says some 2270's were made in the U.S.. Yet I don't think I've ever seen one that didn't say "made in Japan" regardless of whether it says Sun Valley, CA or Chatsworth, CA. on the serial number plate.

I suppose a quick email back to Marantz would settle the issue.

The separates were the last to have production moved to Japan. My understanding is that the 3800s/3600 and 510/510m/250m were the last US made.

I agree with Onemug with the very small lettering people missed.

I checked my 2270 this morning and it does not have the made in Japan lettering it just says Sun Valley, CA.

I just took another look at it, and looked very thoroughly. If it says "Made in Japan" anywhere, I sure can't find it. But that doesn't definitively mean that it's US made, either.:scratch2:

So, on the plaque with the serial #, just the plaque, under the US Patent #, it doesn't say "made in Japan" in the right lower corner?

This is a good fact finding session. Anytime someone can go to their piece and look at it is better than remembering something from years ago.

I can add one more fact. Someone wrote that the "gold/engraved" editions were for the first 1000 units of the 2230/45/70. Not true. I think most databases say they start the serial # with 1000 in this series so #1500 would be the 500th made. My first 2 were in the mid 1000's but I just got another that is in the high 2200's. Now if anyone has one with a # below 1000 we can blow another myth.

Hi to all,
I'm sorry for opening such an old post but it's the only reliable source exiting on the internet about this strange thing. I'm new to the vintage world please be kind and give me a little support.
I've recently purchased a marantz 2270. It's from the later series but still can't figure out where is saying it is made in Japan. Probably it is but can't find it. Maybe somebody will help me.
I attached some pictures to see. Can you instruct me where to look? I can't figure out by myself.
