Marantz 500 VU meter

Hey guys, I got a Marantz 500 but one of the VU meters is not working. Did Marantz use these same VU meters in any other amps? Trying to find a replacement for it if anyone has one...

Thanks

no - unfortunately they did not......

Did you try to have a knowledgable tech look at it?? - maybe the meter itself is ok, but there´s a problem in the circuit relating to it?

I have replacements... But they not going anyplace anytime soon.

How do you know the meter is bad?

I have repaired meters, depending on the issue.

I considered this when, initially, my 500 meters were not working. Actually my meters were fine. It was the circuit that drives the meters. Look there first.
Failing that, you might find a set of meters that are of similar size, or perhaps a tad smaller, rig a custom mounting, as may be required, and make a custom bezel to take up any gap or space around the meter, in the meter opening in the faceplate.
The calibration of the meter could be an issue. The meter should ideally come from another 250WATT/Ch amp; but as most meters can be easily zeroed, the substitution should be relatively straight forward. You will no doubt need to understand the meter driver circuir in the 500. Check the schematic. Then look for a similar design in the amp using the substitute meters.
Not a simple task; but it may be easier than finding a free set of meters.
I also have a set; but, as I have two model 500, I won't be giving mine up any time soon... and that's the problem. A fully functional Marantz 500 is so good that owners tend to get rather attached to them. I know, I've gone to extreme lengths to keep mine safe.

You might try contacting IMS. I had them repair a Simpson Model 260 and they may be able to help you with repairing the meter or know someone who can do the repair.

Can anyone confirm if the VU meters from a 510M would fit my 500? It seems to have a different casing but if I got them and took them out of the casing (cause it has a longer black piece that goes down) and just too the plastic VU with the guts and fit it into mine?

Thing that was wrong with my VU on the 500 was the little hair like wire connecting the coil to the post broke off and noone around here can do that work apparently. And my "good" meter doesnt move under 20watts.

Thanks

510m meters will not work in the 500. You might be a able to adapt it, but I highly doubt it. I would not even try it.

Meters are such a pain to fit and have them look right....
