Hello,

Marantz 250 owners , could you tell me the correct lamps for the meters ?

6,3v 0,25amp or 0,15amp (#44 or #47 bulbs) ?

Thanks

The originals were #44 BA9S bayonet base. The 47's are about half the MSCP but if you find the resulting meter lighting sufficient and to your liking then it never hurts to use a lower current and wattage rated bulb.

How do you replace the bulbs for the meters on the 250 and where can I purchase them?

Quite a pain in the rump. You have to remove the faceplate and top cover. Remove the board on the back of the RS meter. Then remove the 2 screws holding the metal cover over the back of the meters.

I'm not sure what the heck duramaxxx is talking about :dunno: Actually they are quite easy to replace. All you need to do is remove the top cover and the bulb sockets are right on the top of the meter housings. You carefully pry the sockets up and out (they have compression type tabs) then push and twist the bulbs out of the sockets. Literally a 5 min job.

There are at least two meter lamp designs in the 250. Duramaxx and OverLoad are both right.

I'd be interested in seeing a Marantz Model 250 that had a different meter lamp assembly other than I've described. I must have repaired and/or restored a dozen of these over the years and they have all been as I've described. Now if you're referring to the Marantz 250M then that is a different amp and indeed different meter assembly all together.

The 250M is like art work. On par cosmetically with the famed McIntosh. Oh, can I use that word on this group?

Reviving this for selfish reasons.

on my 250 the meter lights seem wrong. It's kinda snake eyed, not lighting up the meter consistently. Dark and light areas. Is worse in person than the photo shows. Improper bulbs?

The 2nd photo is I assume the bulb sockets that can be pryed up to access the bulbs? Any trick to working the tabs?

Same with the one on my bench. The lamps are GE 44 - 6.3V/250mA. Pun intended, it's not the most brilliant scheme.

Mine does this too I bought a few different led and looks similar which is a shame some photos online the meters look great I wonder what is different with those amps?

Carefully. Last night I removed these from a 250. The plastic bulb holder is brittle from the years of heat. One was broken from the guy before me (really!).

I carefully used a flat screwdriver and worked around the holder.

If you get them off, please, wipe the rim of the socket with a little silicone grease. It will help the next guy.

Oh, and be careful.

I pulled the cover off of the 250 I just finished. Here is a pic of the broken one. you can see the cutout in the bulb case. i think the plastic socket should flex through the hole but it is brittle. I tried turning the black bulb socket but it wasn't really keyed.

Just be careful

I pulled the lamps and installed the AC/DC warm white LED bayonet lamps purchased online. Its much brighter, much cooler, and the diffused-lens LEDs actually fill the backlit area a bit better than the incandescents. I stuck another in the pilot lamp for the mating 3300 control amp and now the indicator is actually visible in a lit room. The LEDs were a buck apiece, and new ML44 lamps are actually more expensive.

Which ones did you use? I see lots of different AC/DC warm white LED bayonets. If they looked good and filled the meter then may as well do the same.

Was hoping to find out which ones Watthour used, the LED bayonets. I figure they would look better and last longer than the incandescent. Buck a piece sounds interesting too, just hope it does not reflect the price in the display :)
I would be curious to see how well yours is lit with the #47, I know the one I have was not very well lit with the 6.3v 1.5w bulbs that were in it. Also of course I am dealing with a flickering socket, the Marantz 250 legacy lol.
