Marantz model 250 bulbs

Reviving this for selfish reasons.

on my 250 the meter lights seem wrong. It's kinda snake eyed, not lighting up the meter consistently. Dark and light areas. Is worse in person than the photo shows. Improper bulbs?

The 2nd photo is I assume the bulb sockets that can be pryed up to access the bulbs? Any trick to working the tabs?

The lights on my 250 are similar but not quite as bad. I'll be going after this in the near future.

I'm in no way a tech in this area. So help my out here....how much duct tape and how big a sledge hammer do I need?

Otherwise, I love my 250.

Be careful and use common sense when removing the bulb sockets. They are pretty fragile after many years of heat.

I've seen many that were broken

Was hoping to find out which ones Watthour used, the LED bayonets. I figure they would look better and last longer than the incandescent. Buck a piece sounds interesting too, just hope it does not reflect the price in the display :)
I would be curious to see how well yours is lit with the #47, I know the one I have was not very well lit with the 6.3v 1.5w bulbs that were in it. Also of course I am dealing with a flickering socket, the Marantz 250 legacy lol.

I used fairly generic BA9S LED replacements, warm white with a 6-14V rating. They also had a diffused lens similar to a neon lamp, like these:
